24 primary school teachers get housing allocation

An Igbo teacher who was met at her duty post as early as 6am about two years ago when Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum paid an unscheduled visit is among the 24 primary school teachers allocated houses at the newly built quarters for teachers in the Northeast state.
Mrs Obiageri Mazi, who hails from Abia State and has been a teacher at Shehu Sanda Kyarimi 2 Primary School under Jere Local Government Education Authority for 31 years, was after the governor’s visit promoted from a class teacher to the rank of Assistant Headmistress as an executive reward for her punctuality.
Zulum, a University Professor, had visited the school around 6am as part of his unscheduled supervision and he was amazed that Mrs Obiageri was already at the school, that early, awaiting the arrival of her pupils.

The governor on the spot had given her N100,000 cash and approved her immediate promotion.
Obiageli was again rewarded when her name came up among the 24 school teachers allocated flats at a newly commissioned quarters built by Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration in Maiduguri.
The quarters was commissioned by President Buhari some weeks ago when he visited Maiduguri for the 2022 World Humanitarian Day.
The teachers quarters at Bulumkutu along airport road is one of over 600 capital projects delivered by Zulum.
Borno State Government allocated the fully furnished 24 units of the houses to Primary School Teachers from Maiduguri and Jere Local Education Authority (LEA) during a brief ceremony on Wednesday at the quarters.
Engr Lawan Abba Wakilbe, Borno State Commissioner for Education, while handing over the houses to beneficiaries, disclosed that Borno government has constructed similar edifices in Banki Town of Bama Local Government area and Mafa.
He also said Zulum’s administration will extend such projects to other Local Government Areas in order to provide accommodation for hardworking teachers in the LGAs.
The commissioner further added that beneficiaries were selected based on merit from different Schools within the vicinity of the quarters. He charged teachers to take good care of the facility as it is an institutional property.

Meanwhile, The Commissioner for Housing and Energy, Engr. Yuguda Vungas, whose ministry constructed the quarters, while handing over the keys to the Honourable Commissioner for Education Engr., Lawan Abba Wakilbe, for onward allocation to teachers disclosed that the houses consisted of 12 units each of fully furnished two bedrooms, a parlour, kitchen and two self contained toilets, while 12 are fully furnished one bedroom, a parlour, kitchen and toilet.
The Executive Chairman Teaching Service Board (TSB), Prof Suleiman Bello, Executive Chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Prof. Bulama Kagu, Chairman Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Borno State Comrade Jibrin Mohammed, immediate Deputy National Chairman NUT, Comrade Bulama Abiso, took turns to commend Prof Zulum’s polices and programmes in enhancing teachers’ welfare and the need to re-dedicate themselves to their duties.
Highlights of the occasion was the presentation of allocation letters to the beneficiaries.

ISWAP Terrorists Kill Hunters’ Leader in Borno

Suspected ISWAP terrorists have killed the chairman of the hunters’ group in Garjang village, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 5 a.m. on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Habu Dala, 53, was abducted from his home by the terrorists, who took him through Mulharam to Forfot villages in Damboa LGA.
Villagers mobilised in search of Dala and later found his corpse bearing gunshot wounds.
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and the hunters’ group visited the scene.
The remains were evacuated to the General Hospital, Damboa, where he was certified dead and later released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Nine Injured in Kwali Farmers–Herders Clash

Nine persons sustained machete injuries in a clash between Bassa farmers and Fulani herders in Gomoni Village, Kwali Area Council of the FCT.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the fight, which broke out on Aug. 9 at about 3:30 p.m., followed alleged destruction of melon and maize farms belonging to the Bassa community by cattle.
It was gathered that the Nigeria army troops
along with joint team of operatives, and vigilantes were deployed to the scene following a distress call.
Six Bassa and three Fulani victims with varying degrees of machete cuts were taken to Rhema Foundation Hospital, Kwali, for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that the situation had been brought under control and normalcy restored, while investigation was ongoing.

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday attended the wedding fatiha of Aisha, daughter of Shehu Aliyu, an Executive Director with First Bank of Nigeria, and Muhammad Jalal, son of former Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, Talban Minna, at the National Mosque, Abuja.
The solemnisation, led by the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Dr. Muhammad Kabir Adam, alongside other Imams, featured prayers for the couple’s blessings.
Vice President Shettima stood in for the bride, while Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu represented the groom, culminating in the presentation of the dowry and the formal tying of the marital knot.
The event was graced by prominent dignitaries, including former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, former Minister of Special Duties Kabiru Turaki, Katsina State Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe, the Emir of Borgu, Niger State, Muhammad Sani Dantoro among many others.
