According to sources available to NEWSng, the motorcycle thief was caught and taken to police station but some angry youth forcefully took him away from the police and exercise sentence afterwards setting his lifeless body on fire.
One of the youth in the community, told NEWSng that ” The reason for their actions is because the suspect have been arrested several times but was often set free by the police.
” So on this occasion, the people decide to take the law into their hands and feel that justice is served by their actions since the police are no longer reliable ” he said.
Also a community leader in the area said “The resulting incident though ugly represents the kind of society we are living in.”
According to him, this is happening because the youths are no longer comfortable with the justice system in Nigeria.
“The justice system is either slow, not active or not trustworthy. That is why the suspect was lynched to death. But that is not to say that those who killed him did the right thing. Our government must wake up to end such brewing actions by lawless citizens.” he said.
The spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo has confirmed the incident.
He said ” the police is investigating those behind the lynching of the suspect “.
