NIS Boss Warns Officers Against Misdemeanor and Corruption

The Acting Comptroller General of Immigration, Mrs. Caroline Adepoju has called on officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to shun all forms of misdemeanor and corruption, insisting that the Service has zero tolerance for any sharp practices that could undermine the ongoing effort at reformation.

Adepoju gave this advice at the weekend during the Presidential Commissioning and Passing Out Parade of the 48th Superintendent Basic Course 2023 at the Immigration Training School, Kano.

She said that: “The commandant (of the school) has assured me of your character and conduct worthy enough to be deploy to the field, note that the core mandate of NIS is border security, while at field I urge you to shun all forms of misdemeanor and corruption, the service has zero tolerance to any sharp practices that will undermine the effort of the service reforms on operational effectiveness and efficiency.”

She added that: “I strongly believe you have passed through the expected rigoof paramilitary trainings that instill sense of discipline and commitment to duty. The service and the school will be proud of you for the legacy project you put on ground this will enormously assist government effort to provide infrastructural facilities particularly in training institution.”

She charged the graduates that “as you graduating today you should know the citizenship integrity is part of Nigeria Immigration Service mandate, therefore you must strike a balance between ethics and professionalism in the use of the power of state at your disposal while dealing with citizens, vulnerable and non-vulnerable migrants, consequently, I enjoin you to adhere to NIS Act, NIS manual and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) standards.”

She expressed gratitude to the government, emirate and people of Kano for the usual support rendered to them, adding that: “I will like to extend the same to all military and paramilitary in the state for the synergy and upholding the “esprit de corps” spirit.”

Nine Injured in Kwali Farmers–Herders Clash

Nine persons sustained machete injuries in a clash between Bassa farmers and Fulani herders in Gomoni Village, Kwali Area Council of the FCT.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the fight, which broke out on Aug. 9 at about 3:30 p.m., followed alleged destruction of melon and maize farms belonging to the Bassa community by cattle.

It was gathered that the Nigeria army troops
along with joint team of operatives, and vigilantes were deployed to the scene following a distress call.

Six Bassa and three Fulani victims with varying degrees of machete cuts were taken to Rhema Foundation Hospital, Kwali, for treatment.

Authorities confirmed that the situation had been brought under control and normalcy restored, while investigation was ongoing.

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday attended the wedding fatiha of Aisha, daughter of Shehu Aliyu, an Executive Director with First Bank of Nigeria, and Muhammad Jalal, son of former Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, Talban Minna, at the National Mosque, Abuja.

The solemnisation, led by the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Dr. Muhammad Kabir Adam, alongside other Imams, featured prayers for the couple’s blessings.

Vice President Shettima stood in for the bride, while Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu represented the groom, culminating in the presentation of the dowry and the formal tying of the marital knot.

The event was graced by prominent dignitaries, including former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, former Minister of Special Duties Kabiru Turaki, Katsina State Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe, the Emir of Borgu, Niger State, Muhammad Sani Dantoro among many others.

Unidentified visitor dies suddenly at Niger Government House Lodge

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the sudden death of an unidentified man who collapsed and died at Government House Lodge, Minna. Zagazola learnt that the incident occurred on Friday, Aug. 2, 2025.

Sources said that the deceased had visited House No. 8, Government House Lodge, in an attempt to see Mr. Sammy, Chairman of Niger Foods. However, upon meeting his host’s absence, the man suddenly took ill.

Medical doctors were reportedly contacted from the IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna, for urgent attention. Unfortunately, by the time the doctor arrived, the man had already passed away.

Following the report, a team of police operatives from GRA Division visited the scene. The body was photographed and evacuated to the IBB Specialist Hospital Mortuary for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
