UNICEF staff association donates medical equipment to PHC in Kano
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Staff Association, Kano Field Office on Tuesday donated medical equipment to Chiranchi Primary Health Care in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The Chairperson of the staff association, Dr Saudat Basheer, said the gesture was to demonstrate their work for children as UNICEF Staff.
“The charity initiative is to show our love and concern for the well-being of women and children in Kano State.
“Chiranchi Primary Healthcare was selected, being the largest hospital providing medical services to the Kumbotso Community,” Basheer said.
The chairperson added that the Chiranchi Primary Healthcare required equipment to improve the health of women and children, hence the need for the donation.
“As we hand over these equipment to you, we hope it will be utilised judiciously to meet the yearnings and aspirations of women and children,” she said.
Earlier, Dr Nasir Mahmoud, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, had commended the UNICEF Staff Association for its gesture.
Mahmoud, who described the intervention as timely, said that the equipment would go a long way in strengthening primary health care in the state.
He said that the PHC would commence 24-hour service to ensure quality healthcare delivery.
Mr Sabi’u Ado, the Chairman, Ward Development Committee, Chiranchi PHC, said the corporate social responsibility by the Kano field office staff association would uplift health care delivery.
He reiterated the committee’s dedication to ensure proper utilisation of the donated items, and urged residents of the community to contribute their quota by visiting the hospital for treatment.
He appealed to other organisations, companies and wealthy individuals to emulate the association.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that items donated include pediatric weighing scale, tables, chairs, laboratory centrifuge, microscopy machine and hematocrit.
Others include extension of the laboratory slab (construction), nine delivery beds, 10 manual suction machines, 11 baby beds and 12 delivery kits.

Troops neutralise bandit, rescue victim in Wase ambush operation

Troops of Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A have neutralised a suspected bandit and rescued a kidnapped victim during a successful ambush operation in Sabon Gari village, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Zagazola Makama was reliably informed that the operation, which occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, followed credible intelligence on the movement of bandits along the Kampani–Zurak–Sabon Gari axis.
According to the sources, troops of Sector 2, deployed under Operation Safe Haven, laid a tactical ambush at key crossing points used by the criminals.
During the engagement, one bandit was neutralised while others fled the scene. The troops later combed the general area and rescued one Mr. Amadu Alhaji Nuhu, a 45-year-old man from Taraba State, who had been held captive.
Items recovered from the scene included one fabricated pistol, a pistol magazine, four rounds of 9mm ammunition, one boxer motorcycle, a pair of shoes, a cap, and a head warmer.
The rescued victim and recovered items are currently in safe custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing criminals.

Two persons have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a bandit attack on vigilante operatives in Edogi, Lafiagi axis of Kwara State.
The incident, which occurred during a clash between the vigilantes and suspected bandits, also left four persons with gunshot wounds. Among the injured are Mohammed Ndagi,Saidu Jiya,and Philips John,all members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN). A civilian passerby, Babangida Daniel was also caught in the crossfire.
They were rushed to the General Hospital in Lafiagi for emergency treatment. However, the VGN Commander, Mohammed Yatsu (50), and Babangida Daniel were confirmed dead by medical personnel.
The remaining injured victims have been referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) for further medical care.
Meanwhile, ASP Sado Sunday, who was reportedly involved in the operation, remains missing as search efforts continue.
Security sources say efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators and restore calm in the area.

Security forces repel attack, reclaim villages in Bokkos LGA, Plateau

A joint security operation has reclaimed several deserted villages in the Horop District of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, following persistent attacks and occupation by suspected Fulani militias.
Zagazola Makama was reliably informed that the clearance operation was launched after residents of Hokk and neighboring villages fled their homes, reporting that the attackers had taken over their communities and erected temporary shelters.
In response, a combined troops of the Nigerian Army, team of Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel were deployed to the area to restore order and secure the villages.
The troops, encountered strong resistance from the armed attackers. A fierce gun battle ensued, but the attackers were eventually overpowered and forced to retreat into nearby bushes.
During the operation, several makeshift huts erected by the militias were destroyed, and two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing assailants were recovered.
Authorities say patrols and security presence in the area have been intensified to prevent further incursions and allow displaced villagers to safely return to their homes.
