Foundation holds outreach for 40 women in Abuja

The Aisha Agwai Foundation AAF will hold a Maternal Health Outreach at the Gwarinpa General Hospital in Abuja, the convener of the medical outreach, Ms Aisha Agwai, who is also the organisation’s founder, said in a press statement Thursday in Abuja.
“This is the first outreach of the Aisha Agwai Foundation, and we are committed to supporting the country’s healthcare delivery system. As such, we are holding this Outreach. Our main motivation remains that there is a gap in the healthcare system, especially concerning women from low-income households. Primarily because they are unable to afford their medical bills and access other maternal support,” Agwai said.
The medical outreach will support 40 women with pregnancy care kits known as Mama kits and newborn essentials.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), despite efforts targeted at addressing maternal deaths across national and sub-national levels, the maternal mortality ratio has remained high in Nigeria in the last two decades, with the country currently accounting for about 20% of global maternal deaths.
“It is for these reasons that we are committed to ensuring that we have these outreaches regularly”, Agwai added.
