NSCDC seals Chinese security firm, six others for operating illegally in Abuja

Seven private security outfits have been sealed by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory
The operation was carried out on Wednesday by the Federal Capital Territory Command of NSCDC as part of a broader enforcement effort to ensure compliance with the guidelines on establishment of private security outfits.
The FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr. Olusola Odumosu who led the enforcement team, stated that “six of the seven companies had no operational licences, while the seventh was operating with an expired licence.”
Odumosu said such violations pose serious threats to internal security, especially in a sensitive area like the FCT.
He said: “We are the regulatory agency, and there is a need to conform and comply with the extant law.
“The provision of the law is that before you can operate a private guard company in Nigeria, you must not only register with the Corporate Affairs Commission but also obtain an operational licence approved by the Minister of Interior through the NSCDC,” the Commandant said.
He decried that some of the illegal operators hire unverified individuals, including foreigners, without proper background checks.
Odumosu said: “Some of these operators of the private guard companies do not understand the implication of the action to national security.”
He noted that in some cases, private guards had been implicated in criminal activities, including kidnappings and robberies, often targeting their own employers.
The commandant added, “I know how many of such cases we have had to deal with where the guards are responsible for kidnapping of the people who employ them and in some cases, we have had a series of cases where it is this same guard that will plan a robbery operation within the precinct of the environment. So we cannot allow this to happen.”
He also raised concerns about foreign ownership, noting that one of the sealed companies was reportedly being run by Chinese nationals.
He stated that: “Foreigners cannot operate private guard companies in Nigeria. Who knows the mission of those people or whether their personnel are serving as informants?” he said.
He said the FCT command plans to continue its clampdown on unlicensed operators, stressing that national security must not be compromised.
The command urged individuals and businesses seeking private security services to only engage companies that are properly licensed.
“There are many registered security companies available. Those interested in operating their own should follow the legal process and obtain the necessary approvals,” the commandant concluded.
The sealed security companies include Segad security and protection company; Security of China private security company; Frowise Global Security Equipment Ltd; Security company operating in CEWARA Estate; Moss Bright Security company; BERA security company; and Prixair security outfit.

Two farmers killed, others injured in Gombe–Bauchi border attack

Two farmers have been killed and two others injured following an attack by suspected armed men at Luse-Janje bush, located within the Bauchi State grazing reserve, police in Gombe have confirmed.
Sources confirmed the attack to Zagazola noting that the incident occurred on Monday, Aug. 4. around 3:10 p.m.
The sources said four farmers, Ali Jauro, 50, Isah Garba, and two others, all of the same address, were cultivating their farmland when about 20 armed men surrounded and attacked them with machetes, bows and arrows, and sticks.
“Ali Jauro and Isah Garba sustained multiple cuts to the head and were later confirmed dead, while the other two sustained varying degrees of injuries,” the sources said.
The victims were rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Malala, and the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the public mortuary.
The surviving victims named Adamu Sankace, Adamu Maidawa, and one Oshe all of Garin Alhaji Wada village via Darazo LGA, Bauchi State as being among the attackers.
Efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the suspects by the authorities.#

Six injured as troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA repel bandit attack in Katsina

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, in collaboration with the police, vigilantes and Community Watch Corps (C-Watch), repelled a bandit attack on Tashar Gemu and Unguwar Gambo villages in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The attack occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday. During the confrontation, six residents sustained varying degrees of injuries, while one later died at the hospital, police authorities said.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the hoodlums, who invaded the villages in large numbers, were engaged in a fierce gun battle by a combined team of security operatives under Operation FANSAN YANMA.
He said the assailants were subdued and forced to retreat into the surrounding bush.
“The injured victims include Sani Umar, Shamsu Isah, Usman Rabiu, Adamu Amadu, and Isah Abdullahi, the sources said.
“All six victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Malumfashi for medical attention, where Sani Umar was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.” He added
He said security patrols have been intensified in the area to forestall further attacks and to apprehend the fleeing assailants.

Gunmen in military uniform abduct passengers in Benue

Suspected armed men dressed in military camouflage have abducted at least four passengers from a commercial bus along the Otukpo axis of Benue State.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the incident occurred on Aug. 3 at about 10:00 p.m. near Mechanic Village in Otukpo, when a commercial Hummer bus, en route from Abia State to Otukpo, was attacked by the assailants.
Sources said that the gunmen, believed to be Fulani herdsmen, whisked away between four and five passengers to an unknown destination.
One of the passengers, Sandra Okoh, a resident of Otobi Akpa, managed to escape during the attack and was later found during a joint search and rescue operation by the Nigerian Troops.
She told the security forces that her husband, Okoh Mike, was among those abducted. She also alleged that the bus driver fled the scene with passengers’ luggage and failed to report the incident to any nearby police station.
The security forces have since launched a manhunt for the suspects and intensified efforts to rescue the kidnapped victims.
