Kidnappers abduct young man in Abuja estate, shoot fiancée

By: Zagazola Makama

Gunmen have abducted a young man during an attack on a private residence at Leisure Court Phase 1 Estate, located under Aco Division in Abuja.

Zagazola Makama gathered that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at about 12:01 a.m., when the attackers gained access into the residence of Mr. Olusoji Litan on Mike Ekere Street.

Sources said the gunmen kidnapped Mr. Litan’s son, Oladeji Emmanuel, who had just arrived Abuja to visit his parents on Friday, Nov. 9.

During the attack, Emmanuel’s fiancée, identified as Amanda, sustained gunshot injuries on both thighs.

Following a distress call received at about 12:25 a.m. from the Chief Security Officer of the estate, police patrol teams, working with hunters and vigilantes, were deployed to the scene.

Three expended 7.62mm ammunition shells were recovered from the compound.

Amanda was immediately evacuated to Lawrence Margaret Teaching Hospital, River Park Estate, where she is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

Sources said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing kidnappers and rescue the victim.

The case is being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

Troops repel terrorist infiltration attempt on Pulka base, kill one

By Zagazola Makama

Troops have repelled an attempted terrorist infiltration attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Pulka in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, neutralising one terrorist and forcing others to withdraw.

The attack occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, when suspected terrorists attempted to infiltrate the military base.

According to a security report obtained by Zagazola Makama, troops responded swiftly and engaged the attackers, defeating the attempted assault.

A reinforcement team from 26 Task Force Brigade, Garrison, subsequently mobilised to the scene and further compelled the terrorists to withdraw from the area.

During the encounter, one terrorist was neutralised, while two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds.

The attack also resulted in damage to three tyres of Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles deployed at the base.

The injured soldiers were evacuated to 7 Division Military Hospital (7 DMSH), where they are currently receiving medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

Troops have since maintained heightened vigilance and intensified security around the base and adjoining areas to prevent further attempts by terrorists to infiltrate military positions.

The failed attack underscores the continued pressure by security forces against terrorist groups operating around the Mandara Mountain axis and the importance of maintaining strong defensive positions in vulnerable border communities.

Berom Militia attack herders in Plateau, kill fulani herders, shot seven livestock and rustle dozens in unprovoked assault

By Zagazola Makama

Armed Berom Militia have allegedly attacked Fulani herders along the Jong–Nyeriwei Road and in Dorowa Babuje community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing at least two people and rustling several cattle.

The incidents, which occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, are the latest in a series of violent attacks and counter-attacks that have continued to fuel tensions between communities in parts of Plateau State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama said troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), responded to reports of sporadic gunfire around the Jong–Nyeriwei Road at about 1:09 p.m.

According to the sources, troops arrived at the scene and discovered that a group of armed Berom Militia had attacked Fulani herders in the area. During the attack, a 19-year-old herder identified as Ishaku Yakubu, from Jong Village, was reportedly killed.

The attackers also shot and killed seven cattle, while a sizeable number of other cattle were allegedly rustled and taken away from the area.

The troops subsequently dominated the general areas of Nyeriwei and Enzom in an effort to locate the rustled livestock and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

In a related incident, troops received a distress call from Dorowa Babuje community in Barkin Ladi at about 2:25 p.m. The troops immediately moved to the area and discovered that a 23-year-old man identified as Andata had been shot dead by armed Fulani youths around Marit Junction, Dorowa Babuje.

Following the incident, troops dominated the general area and commenced efforts to track down the perpetrators. The two incidents occurred within hours of each other, raising fresh concerns over the potential for retaliatory attacks in the affected communities.

The Headquarters of Operation Enduring Peace has consequently intensified efforts to prevent reprisal attacks and contain the situation.

Security sources said the latest violence draw attention to the fragile security situation in parts of Plateau State, where attacks on herders and livestock theft by Berom Militia have repeatedly triggered retaliatory violence.

The pattern has often involved an initial attack resulting in deaths or destruction of property, followed by a reprisal attack against another community, creating a cycle of violence that is difficult to contain.

The security forces are therefore working to prevent the latest incidents from escalating into further attacks, particularly as troops continue to search for the perpetrators and recover the reportedly rustled cattle. Residents in the affected communities have also been urged to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their hands and provide credible information to security agencies.

Security agencies are expected to sustain patrols and surveillance across vulnerable communities and road corridors to prevent further attacks and ensure that those responsible for the killings and cattle rustling are brought to justice.

49.7kg Heroin: NDLEA Arrests Fugitive Drug Kingpin After Two Years on the Run

By: Michael Mike

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested and repatriated Festus Ibewuike, alias Chidibest Ibewuike, a suspected drug kingpin who had been on the run for more than two years following the seizure of 49.7 kilogrammes of heroin at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

Ibewuike, 52, was arrested at the airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic, on September 2, 2026, following actionable intelligence and coordinated efforts between the NDLEA and INTERPOL authorities in Nigeria and Benin.

He was subsequently handed over to NDLEA operatives deployed to Cotonou on September 4 and brought back to Nigeria to face prosecution over his alleged role in the trafficking syndicate behind what the agency described as the largest single heroin consignment ever intercepted at the Lagos airport.

The suspect had reportedly relocated to Mozambique, where he operated a hotel business allegedly used as a cover, while making efforts to evade Nigerian law enforcement by moving between Mozambique and Nigeria through neighbouring Benin Republic.

His arrest followed a 12-day operation by operatives of the NDLEA MMIA Strategic Command in February 2024, during which 49.70kg of heroin was intercepted at the airport’s cargo terminal.

The spokesman of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi in a statement on Wednesday, said the drugs were concealed in cartons containing metal-cutting machines and marked with the code “ND”. Investigations subsequently linked the parcels to Ibewuike, who allegedly operated through members of a wider trafficking network.

The operation led to the arrest of several members of the syndicate, including his wife, Confidence Ndidiamaka Ibewuike, who investigators said routinely received drug-laden consignments on his behalf.

He said the agency also secured the freezing of 107 bank accounts and forfeiture of properties allegedly connected to the cartel.

He revealed that the suspects were charged before Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, in charge number FHC/L/205C/2024.

He said theee suspects — Adinnu Felix Chinedu, Osita Emmanuel Obinna and Uzochukwu Frankline — have so far been convicted and sentenced by the court.

He further noted others — Chidiebere Peter, Ibewuike Ndidiamaka and Igbokwuputa Onyinye — are still standing trial, while Ibewuike Festus, Osita Chidozie Cyril and another suspect identified as Arinze were charged in absentia.

Following his repatriation, Ibewuike reportedly confirmed his identity during preliminary interviews and disclosed that he had changed his name from Chidibest Ibewuike to Festus Ibewuike.

On September 5, he was taken to the NDLEA Central Exhibit Store in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he formally identified the heroin parcels bearing the “ND” code, which the agency said had been established as being linked to him.

Further investigation also uncovered his alleged connection to an earlier drug case involving the seizure of 40.255kg of methamphetamine.

The earlier case was prosecuted before the Federal High Court, Lagos, under Justice Hadiza Rabiu Shagari in charge number FHC/L/203C/2013. One Chidi Ihedioha, who was prosecuted in connection with the case, was convicted by the court in 2023.

Reacting to the latest development, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), described Ibewuike’s arrest as a major breakthrough in the agency’s campaign against fleeing drug kingpins.

Marwa warned drug traffickers who flee the country to escape prosecution that international borders would not shield them from justice.

“This arrest is a major breakthrough in our resolve to track down and bring to justice every drug baron who thinks that fleeing Nigeria’s shores puts them beyond the reach of the law,” he said.

He added: “As I have always vowed, the long arm of the NDLEA will catch up with anyone involved in this illicit trade, no matter how long it takes or how far they run.”

According to him, Ibewuike’s more than two-year flight, including his alleged change of identity and relocation abroad, had not prevented the agency from tracking him down.

“This should serve as a fresh warning to fleeing suspects still at large: the Agency will not relent until every one of you is brought to book,” Marwa said.

The NDLEA chairman commended the multinational cooperation that facilitated the arrest and transfer, particularly the Nigerian and Beninese INTERPOL National Central Bureaus, for their role in ensuring the smooth handover of the suspect.

The agency said the development further demonstrated its determination to pursue suspected drug traffickers beyond Nigeria’s borders and ensure that fleeing suspects are eventually brought before the law.
