Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved a special training fund for the 56 medical doctors currently undergoing residency training under the state’s sponsorship.
The governor granted the approval during an interactive meeting with the resident doctors at the Government House in Maiduguri on Thursday.

The meeting was convened at the governor’s instance to assess the progress of the doctors’ training and address any challenges hindering their seamless progression in their various places of primary assignments.
Beyond approving the training fund, Zulum also approved the immediate implementation of promotional benefits for all resident doctors due for career progression.
He directed that the promotions be implemented with immediate effect and that all arrears be paid to the beneficiaries, dating back to the effective date of their promotions.
The governor also directed the Borno State Hospital Management Board to organise a similar interaction with other medical doctors in the state who are not undergoing residency training.

He reiterated that the welfare of all health workers in the state remained a top priority for his administration, stressing that a motivated workforce is essential for delivering quality healthcare services to the people of Borno.
“My administration is committed to creating an enabling environment for our health professionals. We understand that without their dedication, we cannot achieve the needed health coverage we desire for our citizens,” the governor stated.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders in the health sector, including the Commissioner for Health, Professor Baba Mallam Gana; the chairman of the State Hospital Management Board, Dr Joseph Jatau; and the Chief Medical Director, Professor Abubakar Kullima.

Also in attendance were the acting Chief of Staff, Dr Babagana Mustapha Mallumbe; the Chief Adviser to the Governor, Dr Mairo Mandara, the Executive Director, Borno State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Professor Arab Alhaji Mohammed and the Chief Medical Director of the Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital, Prof. Ibrahim Musa Kida.

MOPOL Killed in Machete Attack by suspected Fulani herder in Plateau

A Mobile Police Officer, identified as Cpl. Abdulrahman Auwal, has been killed in a machete attack by fulani herders along Kwi Road in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 6:51 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, when troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), responded to a report of an attack on the personnel.
The sources said troops who arrived at the scene found the victim with multiple machete wounds, while the suspected assailants, believed to be Fulani youths, had fled.
The victim was evacuated to a hospital by his colleagues, but he was later confirmed dead.
Security personnel have commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible for possible arrest.
Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.

Gunmen Kill Two Local Miners in Plateau Community

Gunmen have killed two local miners in Kazok village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, in an attack that has triggered a manhunt for the perpetrators.
Security sources said troops of Sector 4, Sub-Sector 41, Gashish, under Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), responded to a report of the attack at about 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9.
The sources said the troops, upon arrival at the scene, found the bodies of the victims, identified as John Mafulu and Ezikiel Yohanna.
The assailants were said to have fled before the arrival of the troops.
The sources noted that previous efforts by stakeholders to engage the community and secure the suspension of mining activities had been undermined by individuals allegedly involved in the illegal mining operations.
Troops have commenced efforts to track down the assailants, while further investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the killings.
The incident comes amid ongoing security challenges in parts of Plateau State, where authorities continue to pursue measures aimed at preventing violence and addressing disputes linked to local activities.

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies, have conducted a show of force across major flashpoints in Jos and Bukuru metropolis of Plateau State.
The operation, conducted at about 1:45 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, was part of proactive measures to strengthen security and ensure peaceful Juma’at prayers across the area.
Security sources said the troops and other security personnel deployed to strategic locations within Jos and Bukuru metropolis to reassure residents and deter criminal elements from exploiting the period of congregational prayers.
The joint team also provided security at various mosques across different sectors and subsectors within the Joint Operations Area.
The sources said the exercise was designed to prevent security breaches, deny criminal elements freedom of action and ensure worshippers could observe their prayers without disruption.
The show of force forms part of ongoing security measures by OPEP and other agencies to maintain peace and prevent incidents of violence in Plateau State.
