The police in Benue have recovered one rustled cow and arrested four suspects in connection with a case of armed robbery and cattle rustling in Otukpo Local Government Area of the state.

Sources said that the development followed ongoing investigation into an earlier report of cattle rustling recorded on March 9.

According to the sources, one of the stolen cows was recovered in the possession of a suspect identified as Tunde Rafiu of Okpomaju Village in Otukpo LGA.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to purchasing the cow from another suspect identified as Maki Damina.

The police subsequently arrested Damina along with two other suspects believed to be linked to the cattle rustling network.

Security sources said there were strong suspicions that the remaining stolen cattle might be hidden in a bandits’ hideout at Amla area of Otukpo LGA.

They added that the use of police air support for aerial surveillance and operations in the area could assist in locating the suspected hideout, dismantling the criminal group and recovering the remaining cattle.

Investigation into the case was ongoing as efforts continued to track down other members of the syndicate.
