Adamawa committee discharge 119 inmates to decongest prisons

Adamawa State correctional centre at Yola,  has on Tuesday released  119 inmates set up to decongest prisons in the state.

The Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee concluded the process of discharging the 119.

The committee also convicted 49 awaiting trial inmates and granted bail to 31 who were in prison detention.

The committee which was led by the state Chief Judge, Justice Nathan Musa, said out of the total number of 410 inmates awaiting trial, only 19 were convicted for various offences at the Jimeta Correctional Centre.

The committee chairman said: “This necessitated the exercise because there was a serious gap between those awaiting trials and those convicted.

“The exercise was also meant to fast track court proceedings and reform the judiciary system in the state.”

Addressing the inmates shortly after the 2-day exercise, Nathan Musa told them that those who were convicted summarily admitted committing the offence “and we felt there is no need to keep them waiting for further trial.”

He added that the committee convicted them according to the provisions of the law to fast track justice.

He disclosed that his committee took two days to attend to 410 cases, and that they had painstakingly taken their time to peruse their case files and to listen patiently to them before arriving at their decisions.

He explained further: “The committee was set up by the Minister of Internal affairs to see that we periodically visit prisons to decongest especially awaiting trial.”

Operation Fansan Yamma troops foil ransom exchange, rescue kidnapped woman in Kebbi

By: Zagazola Makama

Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued a kidnapped woman and disrupted a planned ransom exchange in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The troops, conducting counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations in the state, carried out the successful operation on Aug. 26, 2026, following credible intelligence on the planned ransom payment.

Zagazola Makama gathered from security sources that the victim had been abducted from her farm sometime last month, while the criminals were preparing to collect ransom in exchange for her release.

Acting on the intelligence, the troops swiftly mobilised to intercept the transaction.

Sources said the criminals attempted to engage the advancing troops after sighting them but were overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower.

The bandits subsequently fled in disarray, abandoning the hostage, who was immediately secured by the troops.

The victim was found unharmed and later transported to safety before being reunited with her family in Danko-Wasagu LGA.

Following the rescue, the troops conducted a thorough exploitation of the withdrawal route to ensure that the area was fully secured before returning to base.

In a related operation, the troops also conducted clearance and dominance patrols in Ngaski Local Government Area as part of efforts to maintain peace and deny criminal elements freedom of movement.

The patrols were completed without incident, further strengthening security presence and reassuring residents in the affected communities.
