NDLEA seizes 1.1 tonnes of Tramadol, others in Kaduna

NDLEA seized 1.2 tonnes of tramadol tablets and 396kg of codeine syrup and in Kaduna State on Monday and Tuesday.

Its spokesman in the Kaduna Command, Superintendent of Narcotics, Mr Maijama’a Abdullahi told a news conference in Kaduna on Wednesday that the tramadol tablets were seized in Zaria Local Government Area of the state.

There were about 2.3 million tablets in the haul made on Monday, he said.

Abdullahi said operatives of the NDLEA also arrested one suspect in relation to a tramadol haul at a poultry farm and the farm was consequently sealed.

He added that on Tuesday, operatives on motorised patrol stopped and searched a Toyota bus with registration number RBC 752 XE where they found 15 sacks of codeine syrup.

The sacks of codeine were concealed under cartons of beer and malt drinks, he said.

The driver told the operatives that the consignment of drugs was loaded at Onitsha Market in Anambra for delivery in Kaduna.

“The 2,919 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 396 kg, have street value of N10.5 million,’’ Abdullahi said.

He added that investigation was on-going to establish the would-be recipient of the codeine in Kaduna.

Abdullahi also told newsmen that 73 suspects, including a female were arrested so far in the state in April while in possession of illicit drugs.

Operation Lake Sanity 2: Troops Neutralise one Terrorist, Thwart Boko Haram Logistics Movement

As part of the ongoing Operation Lake Sanity 2, troops of Sector 2 Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) based in Bagasola, Chad, conducted an ambush on 13 May 2024. This operation took place on Litri Island, situated on the border between Chad and Nigeria in the Central Lake Chad, resulting in the neutralization of one terrorist. The troops were able to recover several items from the operation, including one AK 47 rifle, 2 x magazines, one unexploded ordnance device, a mobile phone, and other personal belongings. This marks a blow to terrorist capabilities in the area.

Complementing this success, on 11 May 2024, troops from 19 Brigade Sector 3 MNJTF disrupted a logistics movement by Boko Haram terrorists in the Burwarti area of Kukawa LGA, Borno State, Nigeria. The ambush led to the capture of 2 motorcycles, one Baofeng radio, 4 bags of millet, and various miscellaneous items. Following this operation, on 12 May 2024, a clearance operation from Burwarti to Daban Masara resulted in the intercept of a civilian vehicle by troops. The vehicle, driven by Mr Baba Ado, carrying passengers and empty baskets towards Daban Masara, was found 6km east of Burwarti. After a thorough search and interrogation, Mr Baba Ado, who was on the 19 Brigade’s watch list, was detained for further investigation.

Adding to these successes, on 13 May 2024, the Nigerien Gendarmerie in Sector 4 MNJTF located in Diffa, Niger Republic, seized petroleum products concealed within sacks of maize cereals. This operation, conducted about 5km from the main road on the outskirts of Diffa town, thwarted an attempt to smuggle these products past security checkpoints, products that were destined for terrorist groups operating within the Lake Chad Basin.

These collective efforts significantly undermine the logistical and operational capabilities of terrorists in the Lake Chad Basin region. The MNJTF remains committed to eradicate the menace of terrorism and restore peace and security to the region.

Troops Kill 4 Terrorists In Sambisa Forest

In continuation of their massive onslaught on terrorists enclaves in Sambisa Forest, troops have killed four more Boko Haram terrorists in the Bama axis of the forest.

The troops of 21 Armored Brigade Forces of Operation Hadin Kai achieved this feat in conjunction with the CJTF hybrid force on May 14, 2024.

The terrorists were killed when the troops stormed Garin Fallujah in Ukuba general area in Bama LGA in the combined operation when droves of the terrorists fled in different directions.

Amidst the uneasy calm restored to the area after the operation, the troops, perceiving the unpredictability of the situation, maintained their readiness to advance and strike at the slightest emergence of the need to do so.

Man strapped with explosive found in a Nigerian Bank in Plateau

A middle aged  man is reportedly found in a Nigerian Bank in Dadin Kowa town in Jos South in Plateau state with belts packed with what appeared to be a Person Borne Improvised Explosive Device(SPBIED).

It was gathered that he was apprehended  on May 13, 2024, when the suspect was found with an apparent bomb strapped to his body to detonate at the Bank. 

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama, a Counter Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad region that the vigilante Security at the bank prevented the  attack after they spotted the suspects. 

They immediately apprehended him before he could achieve his aim. The suspect was later surrounded by an angry mob who demanded that he should be killed immediately. 

It is, however, not clear if the suspect is linked with the Islamic State of the West African Province or Boko Haram. He was taken to the Police station where he was undergoing investigation.
