The Federal Government has announced the appointment of five new Chargé D’affaires and 12 Consuls General to some of the country’s mission
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, in a statement on Tuesday by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir, charged them to be good ambassadors of Nigeria in their new roles.
Tuggar, while noting that they were pivotal to the economic drive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressed that as seasoned career diplomats, they should shun the act of politicking and recommit themselves to their calling of diplomacy for the collective interest and development of Nigeria.
Reacting on behalf of the new appointees, the newly appointed Consul General for the Consulate in New York, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda, reiterated the commitment of his colleagues to uphold the ethos of the profession and pledged to bring the much-needed investments to the country.
Jidda thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the confidence reposed in them.
The new appointees are to resume immediately.

Kaduna Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper, Recover Two Fabricated Rifles

Police in Kaduna State have arrested a 30-year-old suspected kidnapper after recovering two fabricated rifles during a routine patrol on April 18, 2025.
Police sources told Zagazola Makama that he patrol team intercepted the suspect, Ishiaku Ali, who was acting suspiciously while holding a sack along the Kauru-Pambeguwa Road at around 4:30 PM. A search of the sack revealed the two fabricated rifles and a long chain, which were concealed inside.
The suspect was immediately arrested, and the recovered items were secured as evidence. Ali, a resident of Bakin Dutse in Kauru LGA, is currently in police custody, and the exhibits will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Kaduna for further investigation.

Police Arrest Eight Suspects for Killing, Burying Baby in Maiduguri Hospital

Eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing and secret burial of a newborn baby at Kwatam Private Hospital along Baga Road in Maiduguri.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on April 18, 2025, at about 1:00 p.m. following a tip-off from concerned residents who saw individuals attempting to bury the baby within the hospital premises.
Security operatives swiftly responded, cordoned off the area, and apprehended all suspects involved in the act.
According to the sources, forensic experts were deployed to the scene and successfully exhumed the body of the newborn for examination.
The suspects have since been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for detailed investigation to uncover the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident.
Investigations are ongoing.

Govt Namadi Awards Special Scholarship to 801 PWDs, Destitute Children

No fewer than 801 People Leaving With Disabilities (PWD), PWDs and other destitute children students studying in various tertiary institutions across the country got special scholarship in addition to general scholarships from Jigawa State governor Malam Umar Namadi.
Speaking while launching the programme, governor Malam Umar Namadi at Banquet Hall at government house, said the programme is under the “Danmodi Students Care” initiative where the beneficiaries drown from 27 local government areas of the state.

Malam Umar Namadi explained that the initiative complements the state’s annual local and foreign scholarship program, which benefits over 36,000 of students from the state.
He revealed that in 2024, his administration reviewed and increased the annual scholarship allowance by 150%, ensuring it covers at least 50% of undergraduates’ registration fees.
Governor Namadi emphasized his administration’s commitment to investing in human capital development, particularly in education and empowerment, which are fundamental to achieving sustainable growth and development.
According to him “Education is a key pillar in our 12-Point Agenda, and we will continue to invest in our students, who are the future assets of our dear state, he said.
At the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Student Affairs and President of “*Danmodi Students Care”, Comrade Salisu Muhammad Seeker, explained that the special scholarship targets students studying Medicine, Health Sciences, Engineering, Agriculture, and selected Arts and Social Science courses.

“Additionally, students under the ‘Women for Health’ program” , selected from rural areas, are among the beneficiaries,”* he said.. “The scholarship will support them from admission until graduation, subject to annual academic performance reviews based on the program’s criteria.” Comrade Salisu stated.
He noted that the initiative aligns with Governor Umar Namadi’s agenda to ensure access to education for every child in the state, regardless of their parents’ socioeconomic status.
Comrade Salisu further stated that, For the 2024/2025 academic session, Danmodi Student’s Care assisted over 1,000 students to gained admission into various universities and tertiary institutions, with 400 of them qualifying for this scholarship.
He revealed that “Danmodi Students Care” is an initiative designed to support rural and underprivileged students in securing tertiary education admission while providing comprehensive welfare and academic support to enhance their performance.
