Gunmen have killed a soldier and the abduction of four Chinese expatriates by armed men in Yagba West Local Government Area of the state.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on Sept. 19 at Saminaka, Ejiba area.
The sources said the hoodlums ambushed a convoy of Vau & Co. Mining Company which was conveying Chinese engineers to a mining site.
“In the attack, one soldier, a Private from 12 Brigade, Lokoja, was shot dead, while Inspector Jubril Mohammed of 45 PMF, Force Headquarters Abuja, sustained gunshot injury on his left arm.
“Four Chinese nationals identified as Mr. Zhou Dansu, Mr. Zhou Hai, Mr. Zhou Jiajun and Mr. Fan Xiuguo were abducted by the gunmen.
“The injured police inspector is receiving treatment at ECWA Hospital, Egbe, while his service rifle remains intact,” he said.
The sources added that combined efforts of the police, Nigerian Army, local vigilantes and hunters had been mobilised to rescue the victims unhurt and apprehend the perpetrators.

Catholic priest shot dead by gunmen in Enugu

The Police Command in Enugu State has confirmed the killing of Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya, the Parish Priest of St. Charles Parish, Eha Ndiagu, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Friday night.
Zagazola report that the priest was attacked around 9:10 p.m. by assailants riding on a motorcycle while it was raining heavily.
“On arrival at the scene, police operatives observed that the victim’s ash-coloured Toyota Camry (2008 model) with registration number ENU 145 SU was riddled with bullets, vandalised, and thoroughly searched by the attackers.
“Twelve expended shells of 7.62×39mm ammunition were recovered at the scene.
“The priest’s body was taken to Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, where a medical doctor certified him dead on arrival. His remains were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy,” the sources said.
The sources added that preliminary investigation was ongoing while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) had been directed to take over the case.
“Intensified efforts are being made to track down the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice,” he added.

Troops foil bandits’ attack, recover rustled cows in Kebbi

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA Kebbi State on Thursday foiled a bandits’ raid, neutralised one of the attackers and recovered large herds of rustled cows in Indarai forest, Zugu District.
Sources said that on Sept. 18, at about 5:30 p.m., armed bandits in large numbers invaded Indarai forest, rustling cows belonging to members of the Zugu community.
According to sources, Army troops and vigilante groups, and other security forces engaged the bandits in a gun duel.
“The joint security forces succeeded in neutralising one of the bandits and recovered the rustled cows.
“Unfortunately, one vigilante member, identified as Nura Tela, sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter and died on the way to hospital.
“The bandits, who were overpowered, fled into neighbouring Zamfara State with some of their injured members,”said the sources.
The sources said that the recovered cows had been handed over to concerned authorities for safe keeping.
The sources assured that intensive patrols had been sustained in the area to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents.

Police arrest suspected cross-border drug trafficker in Katsina

The Police Katsina State have arrested a suspected cross-border drug trafficker and recovered 11 cartons of illicit drugs along the Nigeria–Niger Republic border.
Sources said the arrest was made on Sept. 16 at about 9:00 a.m. by men on stop-and-search duty at Kwangolom checkpoint in Daura.
It said the suspect, Ibrahim Sa’adu, 33, of Kadangwaris village, was intercepted while driving a blue Toyota Carina with registration number DRA 31 AA, and attempting to illegally cross into Niger Republic.
“On search of his vehicle, 11 cartons of drugs were recovered. The suspect and the exhibits have since been handed over to Mai-Adua Division for further investigation,” the sources added.
The sources said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb cross-border crimes and illicit drug trafficking threatening security in the region.
