IDPs: Zulum closes GSSSS Monguno camp, orders immediate rehabilitation
By: Michael Mike
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has ordered the immediate closure of the internally displaced persons (IDP) camp located within Government Senior Science Secondary School, Monguno in order to give room for the rehabilitation of the school and subsequent resumption of academic activities.
Zulum gave the instruction on Tuesday during an inspection visit at the camp to assess the extent of destruction resulting from Boko Haram attack and the prolonged use by IDPs
GSSSS Monguno houses IDPs from parts of Kukawa, Nganzai, Marte and Guzamala displaced by Boko Haram insurgents.
Zulum stated that the IDPs will be relocated to occupy 1,000 resettlement houses built for citizens affected by the over one decade old Boko Haram insurgency.
Monguno’s 1,000 houses is part of the housing intervention that forms over 10,000 resettlement houses constructed by Zulum’s administration since 2019.
The Governor also noted that IDPs who are from communities and villages that attain relative peace will be returned, particularly those from Kekeno, mile 90 and Yoyo among others.
The Governor said Borno State Government will provide a ressetlement package to those that are willing to return to their ancestral lands.
“We will return those of you from communities which have attained relative peace, everyone that is willing to return will be provided with a resettlement package to pick up the pieces of their lives”, Zulum said.

PRNigeria Staff Member Kidnapped En Route to Young Communication Fellowship
By: Zagazola Makama
The media community has been rocked by the news that Salis Manaja, a multimedia staff member with Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), the publishers of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential, has been kidnapped by gunmen. Manaja was abducted while traveling from Abakaliki to Ilorin to participate in the organization’s annual Young Communication Fellowship programme.
Manaja was discovered missing on Saturday after other IMPR staff members, led by Dahiru Lawal, arrived in Ilorin ahead of the annual event. Attempts by his colleagues to reach the multimedia specialist failed when his phone became unreachable.
A source close to the family confirmed that the abductors have since made contact, demanding a ransom for his release. Details regarding the exact location where the kidnapping took place remain unconfirmed. Efforts to reach the publisher of PRNigeria for comment were unsuccessful as his mobile phone was either switched off or receiving foreign dialing tones.
The PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship is an annual capacity-building program held at the organization’s training centers in Kano, Abuja, and Ilorin, aimed at nurturing young journalists and communicators.
The tragic incident casts a shadow over the start of the program, underscoring the severe security risks faced by journalists and travelers across Nigeria.
