IPCR Calls for Thorough Investigation of 16 Soldiers in Delta Community

The Director General, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Dr. Joseph Ochogwu has called on all Nigerians to stand in solidarity with Nigerian Army and insist on thorough investigation of the killing of 16 soldiers in the autonomous community of Okuama, Ewu Kingdom, in Ughelli South Area of Delta State.
He said at this time there is need for total civilian support for the nation’s military, condemning the killings of 16 Soldiers which he described as very sad at a time “we are praying fervently and working for peace in our country, to encourage and attract development, some persons are out there perpetuating violence.”
Ochogwu added that the killing of our trained officers and soldiers, who were on a peace mission has portrayed the country in a bad light at a point when President Bola Tinubu is using all within his power to wage war against insecurity.
He noted that: “To achieve the Renewed Hope of Mr. President, all hands must be on deck to bring our long awaited hope to fruitfulness. But the killing of our Soldiers in Delta State is a new low if we have to tell ourselves the plain truth at this point in time, when almost all the regions are facing one form of insecurity or the other.
“Our gallant security personnel needs commendation in their patriotic effort to secure the nation in this trying time. They need the support of every Nigerian, irrespective of the state or region. Citizens must give the military one hundred percent support as the Institution represents our national sovereignty.
“Every Nigerian ought to rise and condemn the tragic loss of our galant personnel, who were mercilessly killed by some youths during a peace mission to Okuama Community in Delta State.
“The bravery and commitment of our soldiers exemplify the highest virtue of patriotism, courage, and sacrifice, and they should be supported to boost their morale to do more for the country.
“Inasmuch as we urge them not to relent despite the dauting challenges, our security personnel needs nothing less than support from citizens of this country and should not be looked down on or disrespected by whoever have access to gun.
“A country that is not at war losing 16 Soldiers in one fell swoop is not acceptable no matter what. Action like this should be checkmated to deter others, who are nursing or plotting action against our gallant security personnel.
“The unwavering support and focus of the Nigeria Army in upholding peace and security in the country is enough testament that our security personnel are always ready to defend the nation. The resilience and dedication of our Armed Forces is enough evidence of what they are doing for their father’s land. They deserve our praise and not our shame.
“We are calling for thorough investigation into the incident and urge the military to remain very professional at all times no matter the provocation.
“I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Chief of Defense Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Nigerian Army and officers on the tragic loss of our galant personnel. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, the families of the fallen heroes, and the entire Armed Forces as we honour the sacrifice and service of our brave service men.”
