Lawan praises Buni’s accomplishments in Yobe

The President of the Ninth Senate, Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan PhD, GCON, Sardaunan Bade, Yobe North Senatorial District, has said that since assuming office on May 29th, 2019, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Rt. Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, has spearheaded significant accomplishments that have transformed the socio-economic fortunes of Yobe State.
The former Senate President maintained that one of his notable achievements lies in the realm of governance transparency, where he has implemented measures to enhance accountability and public trust.
“In making this a reality, Governor Buni strengthened the Yobe State Bureau of Public Procurement established in 2007 by the Public Procurement Act to promote transparency in government contracting, ensuring that contracts are awarded based on merit and that public funds are utilized efficiently.
According to Senator Lawan, as a prudent manager of resources, Governor Buni’s diligence as an astute administrator won Yobe State the World Bank’s overall top performer award on State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability, and Sustainability (SFTAS) in Nigeria.
“His impactful leadership positioned the state as a trailblazer in due process and transparency when it comes to the conduct of government business and application of public funds, Senator Lawan added.
He maintained that the Buni-led administration has adopted transparency mechanisms that guide the implementation of a biometric payroll system to eliminate ghost workers and streamline the state’s wage bill.
The president of the 9th Senate revealed that these initiatives have strengthened public finances and instilled a culture of accountability within the government.

Gunmen attack ruga settlement in Kaduna, one killed, another injured

One person has been confirmed dead and another seriously injured following an attack by unknown gunmen on a Ruga settlement in Unguwar Barka, Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Zagazola Makama report that the attack occurred at about 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, when the assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, invaded the settlement and opened fire on residents.
Lawan Shehu, aged 37, was shot in the head and fatally injured, while another victim, Bello Shehu, 25, sustained serious gunshot wounds to his hand.
Both victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Makarfi, where Lawan Shehu was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
Security operatives have since visited the scene, and investigation is ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators of the attack.

Twin sisters drown in Song LGA, Adamawa

Tragedy struck in Golantabal village, Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State, as two 13-year-old twin sisters drowned while swimming in a pond on Saturday.
Source from the Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the incident to Zagazola Makama on Sunday.
According to the sources, the twin sisters, Hassana and Hussaina Garabiya, had gone to the farm earlier in the day and stopped by a pond to swim on their way back home around 2:30 p.m.
The sources said a distress call was received at about 3:50 p.m., prompting a swift response by the police.
The DPO, along with officers, visited the scene and coordinated efforts with local divers, who successfully recovered the bodies of the two girls.
The corpses were conveyed to the Cottage Hospital in Song, where they were deposited at the morgue for autopsy.
The police expressed condolences to the family and urged parents and guardians to caution their children against swimming in open water bodies, especially during the rainy season.

Two young farmers found dead in Taraba community

Tension has gripped Bandawa-Kota community in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State following the discovery of the lifeless bodies of two young men in a nearby bush.
Zagazola Makama report that the deceased, identified as Monday Samuel and Kawu Rabo, reportedly left their homes on Friday, June 27, to work on their farm but never returned.
Worried by their disappearance, family members and youths from the community launched a search on Saturday morning. Their bodies were eventually found in the bush, raising concerns of suspected foul play.
The incident has sparked outrage in the area, with residents calling for justice and demanding swift action to apprehend those behind the killings.
The corpses of the victims were recovered by the police and documented before being released to the families for burial, in accordance with local customs.
Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the culprits.
