Maiduguri: VP Shettima leads mourners to funeral of Zulum’s mother-in-law

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Borno’s Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, Senators, House of Representatives members and other top Government officials on Monday afternoon attended the ‘Janaza’ (funeral prayers) of late Hajiya Fatsuma Kyari, Mother-in-Law to Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum.
Late Hajiya Fatsuma Kyari died Monday morning in Abuja after a brief illness. She died at the age of 67. She was mother to Borno first lady, Dr Falmata Babagana Zulum.
The Chief Imam of Borno, Imam Ibrahim Laisu, led the funeral prayers at the first lady’s family compound in Maiduguri on Monday afternoon.
At the funeral were the Minister of Transport, Sa’idu Alkali, Managing Director of Northeast Development Commission, Mohammed Goni Alkali, Secretary to the Borno State Government, Hon Bukat Tijjani,
Vice Chancellor, Borno State University, Professor Umar Kyari Sandabe, amongst other academics.
The Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi, led other Emirs, members of the Borno Emirate Council, and Islamic scholars.
Late Hajiya Fatsuma Kyari is survived by seven children.

Troops rescue two kidnapped victims in Benue

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued two kidnapped victims following a swift response to a distress call in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
Security sources told Zagazola that the incident occurred on April 25 at about 10:20 a.m., when troops deployed at Abaji received reports of a suspected terrorist attack on residents of Michihe community.
The sources said the troops quickly mobilised to the area and made contact with the attackers, engaging them in a firefight.
According to the sources, the criminals were overwhelmed by superior firepower and fled the scene, abandoning their victims.
The troops successfully rescued two kidnapped persons, who were subsequently reunited with their families.
The sources added that follow-up operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, while security patrols have been intensified in the area to prevent further incidents.

Three Hunters Killed in Bandit Attack in Zamfaral

Troops of 1 Brigade under Operation Fansan Yamma have responded to a terrorist attack in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where three local hunters were killed.
Security sources told Zagazola that the incident occurred at about 4:12 p.m. on April 25, when troops deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wanke, in collaboration with local vigilantes, received a report of armed bandits’ activities at Gidan Gabi village.
According to the sources, the troops swiftly mobilised to the area and pursued the fleeing attackers, but their advance was impeded by a river obstacle, allowing the assailants to escape.
The sources said that three hunters were killed during the attack, while an unspecified number of cattle were rustled by the bandits.
Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the perpetrators, while security presence has been intensified in the area to prevent further attacks.

Troops, DSS arrest suspected IPOB/ESN member in Enugu raid

Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have arrested a suspected member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a raid in Enugu State.
Security sources told Zagazola that the operation was carried out on April 25 at about 6:20 p.m. by troops of 82 Division Garrison, 103 Battalion and 197 Special Forces Battalion.
The sources said the joint team conducted the raid at Obinofia Ndiagu village, where one suspected IPOB/ESN operative was apprehended.
According to the sources, three mobile phones were recovered from the suspect during the operation.
They added that the suspect and recovered items are currently in the custody of the 82 Military Intelligence Brigade for further investigation and necessary action.
The sources noted that the operation is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace in the South-East.
