NDLEA boss warns on misuse of hard drugs during driving

The Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Borno State Joseph Icha has warned that the misuse of hard drugs can cause instant death to commuters risking it’s consumption during the pending yulitide.

The Commandant who was speaking Tuesday during the 2022 “ember month”  enlightenment by the Federal Road Safety Corp (frsc) called on commuters in the State to avoid drug abuse entirely during the pending yulitide celebration ahead.

Commandant Icha who gave a goodwill message during the flag off of the ember month sensitization exercise in Maiduguri by the FRSC noted that  it was in the interest of all, both drivers and passengers to flee completely from misuse of drugs or alcohol if they wish to stay alive to enjoy the yulitide period.

Also speaking representative of the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bello Fago called on stake holders to imbibe what has been taught to them during the enlightenment campaign which took place at the premises of the Borno Express transportation company in Maiduguri.

He remarked that the main concerns of commuters during the period under review should be “overspeeding, purchase of inferior spare parts especially breaks and off course mis use of all manner of hard drugs.

The Commissioner of transportation Abubakar Tijani who represented Governor Babagana Zulum commended the FRSC for keeping faith with the people all these years of the lingering insurgency in the state.

” I must commend you for helping us in keeping our people alive in-spite our numerous security challenges on our roads

” We are also happy with you for keeping the synergy with other security agencies alive. We are aware of the vulnerability of some of the roads in the state yet you continue savings lives and properties on a daily basis.

” I call on the FRSC and the road users to be more cautious, sensitive and vigilante in controlling these issues and more.

On overload by commuters, Zulum called on various groups in the motor park to initiate new strategies to bring the menace to the nearest minimum.

Sector Commander Boyi Utten also called on commuters to ensure they make defensive driving their watch word while using the roads.

Side attraction during the occasion were displays by the National Youths Service Corp (NYSC) members who used the occasion to caution people on many inscriptions surrounding defensive driving and the need to always have the right spare parts before going on a long journey.

Special plaques were also presented to several supporters if the FRSC including Governor Babagana Zulum and the Commissioner of transportation, Abubakar Tijani.

Several other security heads and partners in the road sector were present including the Nigerian Army and Customs, immigration, civil defense, the Department of state services, National youth service Corp (NYSC) and related unions like NURTW and NARTO.

Police arrest suspected bandit in Kaduna over suspicious financial transaction

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Rabiu Usman, on suspicion of being a bandit associate following a report of suspicious financial activity in Giwa Local Government Area of the state.

A police sources confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, stating that the suspect was apprehended on April 28 by operatives of the Kidandan Division.

The arrest followed a complaint lodged by Kabiru Abdullahi, a 27-year-old Point of Sale (POS) operator in Galadimawa, who reported that the suspect had requested his account details on April 26 to enable a relative, identified as Ibrahim Bature, to send money to him.

Upon receiving intelligence that Ibrahim Bature is a suspected bandit, the complainant promptly alerted the police. Rabiu Usman was arrested when he arrived to collect the said funds.

The suspect is currently in custody and has provided useful information to investigators. Efforts are underway to track and apprehend Ibrahim Bature, who remains at large.

Bandits kill driver, abduct five passengers on Bagaga-Anka road

Armed bandits attacked a Golf vehicle on the Bagaga-Anka road in Zamfara State on April 26, 2025, killing the driver and abducting five passengers.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred at about 11:40 a.m. when the bandits blocked the road, shot dead the driver, and abducted the five passengers traveling in the vehicle.

Upon receiving the distress report, joint security forces were swiftly mobilized and dispatched to the scene. The injured driver was taken to Bagega Primary Healthcare for treatment.

Efforts to rescue the abducted victims are ongoing, with security agencies intensifying their search for the perpetrators.

Police rescue 68 trafficking victims, arrest 16 suspects in Oyo State

Police in Oyo State have rescued 68 victims of human trafficking and arrested 16 suspects, including 10 males and 6 females, following a raid on a hideout in Kajorepo community, Agabala Daniel Area.

Sources reliably informed Zagazola Makama that the operation, carried out on April 26, 2025, was based on credible intelligence from the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the State Intelligence Division (SID).

The rescued victims include 47 males, 20 females, and one child. They were found locked in a building where they were reportedly being held with the intent to be trafficked.

The suspects were taken into custody for interrogation, while the victims were provided with care and assistance. The building was sealed off, and patrol teams have been deployed to prevent any attempts by an angry mob to destroy the property.

The sources added that further investigations are ongoing to dismantle the trafficking network.
