NDLEA, DSS Sealed Off Abuja Hotel to Stop Launch of New Psychoactive Drink

A joint team of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Department of State Services (DSS) have raided and sealed off Diplomatic Suite Hotel, Asokoro, Abuja.
A statement by the spokesman of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi said the hotel was sealed off to stop a cannabis party and the launch of new psychoactive drink.
The statement read: “Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have raided and sealed Diplomatic Suite Hotel, Asokoro, Abuja in a joint operation with men of the Department of State Services, DSS to stop a cannabis party and the launch of a suspected new psychoactive drink.”
Babafemi disclosed that about 200 attendees including three young ladies who organised the hemp party are currently being profiled and interviewed while bottles of the new drink have been taken for lab analysis.

He said the hotel was raided at about 8:18pm on Wednesday following actionable intelligence that some youths were planning to hold a hemp party at the hotel.
He revealed that quantities of cannabis sativa were recovered from the pockets and bags of those arrested at the hemp party.
He said: “The audacious party no doubt is part of attempts by some elements to create a drug subculture in the Nigerian social space,” insisting that: “The NDLEA will however continue to work with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure abuse of illicit substances is not allowed to get entrenched in the country under any guise.”

Man arrested for allegedly killing mother in Gungul, Benue

A man, identified as Torngusha Usuwe, has been arrested in Gungul Village, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State for allegedly killing his mother after hitting her with a stick.
Zagazola learnt that the incident occurred on Tuesday at about 2:30 p.m., when the suspect allegedly struck his mother on the left jaw during a domestic altercation, causing a severe fracture.
The victim, who began bleeding from her mouth and ear, was rushed to Zege Nyion Clinic in Gungul for urgent medical attention but was confirmed dead around 8:00 p.m. the same day.
Following a report by Terwase Usuwe, a relative of the deceased, detectives were immediately deployed to the scene. Photographs were taken, and the body was evacuated and deposited at the Gungul Memory Integrated Morgue for autopsy.
The suspect, Torngusha Usuwe, has been taken into custody, and investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Man stabbed to death over girlfriend in Minna

A 25-year-old man, Usman Mohammed, has died after being stabbed during a confrontation over his girlfriend in the Barikin-Sale area of Minna, Niger State.
Zagazola Makama learnt that the incident occurred late on Monday night when Usman went to visit his girlfriend, Halima Usman, at Deeper Life Upper Base in Barikin-Sale.
While they were seated outside chatting, three young men identified as Barafi, Ayya, and another yet to be identified approached them and allegedly attempted to woo Halima.
According to eyewitnesses, the men offered Halima ₦5,000 to go out with them, which she declined. The situation escalated when the men became violent, leading to one of them stabbing Usman in the back with a dagger.
Usman was rushed to the General Hospital in Minna, where he was admitted for treatment. However, he died from his injuries in the early hours of Tuesday at about 2:30 a.m.
One of the suspects, identified as Ahmed Mohammed, has reportedly been apprehended, while efforts are ongoing to locate the other two individuals believed to be involved in the attack.
Police officers visited the scene and took photographs of the deceased before depositing the corpse at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.

Armed bandits on Monday ambushed and killed three members of the Community Protection Guards (CPG) in Tungar Arna bush, Wanke District of Gusau Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
Zagazola Makama was informed by reliable sources that the incident occurred at about 1300hrs when the CPG team attached to a local mining site in Wanke District was ambushed by unknown armed bandits.
