Nigerian Troops Eliminate Notorious Bandit Leader Kachalla Na Faranshi in Zamfara

The troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have have successfully neutralized a notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Na Faranshi, along with several of his fighters during an aggressive raid in the forests of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Intelligence sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama on Friday that the terrorists was eliminated when they came in contact with the troops.

Kachalla Na Faranshi was a high-profile bandit leader originally from Shirgi village in Maradi, Niger Republic. Before venturing into armed criminality, he and his father were cattle traders. Over time, he became deeply involved in banditry and weapons smuggling.

His stronghold was located in the Dutsen Kura forest, southwest of Mashema in Zurmi Local Government Area.

He was known for smuggling illicit firearms from Mali and Niger, supplying weapons to various armed groups operating in Nigeria’s northwestern forests.

Na Faranshi had links with terrorist groups operating in Mali and was previously an ally of the notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, before establishing his own criminal network.

On March 23, 2024, Kachalla Na Faranshi released a video displaying sophisticated weapons and a large number of fighters, issuing threats to attack Zurmi town in Zamfara State. His group was responsible for multiple attacks, kidnappings, and arms trafficking in the region.

During the recent operation in the forests of Zurmi, security forces engaged Na Faranshi and his men in a fierce gun battle, successfully eliminating him and many of his fighters.

The Nigerian military have continued to intensified operations in Zamfara and neighboring states to curb banditry and ensure peace in the entire Northwestern region.

Troops arrest suspected ammunition courier, recover 100 rounds in Plateau

Troops of Operation Safe Haven have arrested a suspected terrorist ammunition courier and recovered 100 rounds of ammunition during a sting operation in Kuka area of Plateau State, security sources said.

The arrest was carried out at about 1:00 p.m. on March 15 by troops of Operation Safe Haven operating under Sector 9, Sub-Sector 91, during an intelligence-led operation.

According to the sources, the suspect was apprehended while in possession of 100 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition believed to be meant for a terrorist group operating around Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State and neighbouring states.

Preliminary investigations further revealed that the suspect is allegedly a member of the terrorist group. He was also observed to have a gunshot wound believed to have been sustained during an attack in Benue State in 2024.

The suspect and the recovered ammunition are currently in custody as investigations continue.

Troops neutralise four terrorists, recover rifle in Sokoto operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised four suspected terrorists and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a fighting patrol in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, security sources said.

The sources said that troops of 8 Division Nigerian Army operating from Forward Operating Base Sabon Birni carried out the operation at about 12:00 p.m. on March 15.

The troops conducted a fighting patrol across Tara, Garin Idi, Zango Mallam, Magira, Burukuzuma, and Taratsi villages within the local government area.

While advancing towards Taratsi village, the troops encountered suspected terrorists and immediately engaged them in a gun battle. Four of the terrorists were neutralised during the exchange.

Security sources said the troops recovered one AK-47 rifle with a magazine, while a motorcycle used by the terrorists was destroyed at the scene.

Troops have continued to dominate the area with aggressive patrols to prevent further terrorist activities.

Gunmen kill two, one missing in Sokoto village attack

Suspected terrorists have killed two civilians and left one person missing after an attack on Bargaja Village in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, security sources said.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of March 15 when armed men infiltrated the community and carried out the attack before fleeing the area.

Troops of 8 Division Nigerian Army operating under the Garrison responded to the incident at about 1:28 a.m. after receiving reports of the attack.

On arrival, the troops confirmed that two civilians had been killed, while another resident was declared missing. The soldiers immediately launched a pursuit operation, but no contact was made with the attackers.

The troops have since intensified aggressive patrols in the area to prevent further attacks and deny the assailants freedom of movement.

Residents were also advised to promptly report suspicious activities to enable security forces respond swiftly to threats.
