NSCDC Deploys 30,000 personnel to forestall peace during


… Raises Alarm Over Plans of Unscrupulous Elements to Cause Mayhem across the country under election protest guise

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) has raised an alarm that some unscrupulous elements are planning to cause mayhem during the Easter break all over the country in the name of protesting against the just concluded election, even as 30,000 personnel have been deployed nationwide to forestall break down of law and order, and ensure a hitch-free Easter celebration nationwide.

A press statement on Wednesday by the spokesman of the Corps, Olusola Odumosu read that: “Determined to ensure a hitch-free Easter celebration, the Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR has ordered the deployment of 30,000 personnel from FCT, states, zonal commands and the National headquarters to beef up security across the country.”

He said: “The CG gave this order at the National Headquarters, Abuja, while addressing personnel on the need for effective policing of the nation against any atrocious activities of dangerous elements planning to cause breakdown of law and order.”

The CG, according to him, directed all Special Forces in the Corps such as the Armed Squad, CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, CG’s Special Anti- vandal monitoring Squad, CG’s Marine monitoring unit, Special Female Squad, Diretorate of Intelligence and Investigation (DII), RRS, Agro Rangers, SWAT, K9, Counter Terrorism unit and CBRNE to join forces with the regular officers to ensure a hitch-free celebration across the country.

The CG was quoted to have said: “As the Easter celebration approaches, I want to see massive deployment of personnel everywhere in the country.

“All special forces and regular officers must go all out to protect lives and properties of citizens.

“You must look out for criminals, hoodlums and mischief makers seeking to compromise the integrity of the country and deal decisively with them.”

Audi explained that the massive deployment will cover all public utilities, suspected flashpoints, worship centres, markets, recreational facilities, shopping malls, parks, gardens and other crowded locations.

He stressed that the tight security measures being put in place is to protect lives, infrastructures and prevent any occurence of national emergencies given reports of various political agitations and planned protests in different parts of the country.

The CG said: “Reports have it that some people want to take advantage of the Easter celebration to cause breakdown of law and order, chaos and destruction of critical national assets in the name of election protests and other political agitations but we will not allow that to happen.

“You must prevent any unlawful gathering, assembly or protests which failed to obtain necessary permission from the police which is the lead agency in internal security.

“You must also ensure proper synergy with other security agencies to forestall any threat to the peace of the nation.

“Note that I will not tolerate any excuse for failure, so, ensure you quell any form of insecurity in sights to sustain the relative peace the nation is currently enjoying, CG charged.

He added that the Corps will be working in collaboration with other security agencies and no stone would be left unturned in ensuring that adequate security is provided and sustained in the country.

The Corps helmsman congratulates all Christians in the country on the celebration of Christ’s ressurection and charged them to pray for peace, progress of the nation and a successful transition of power to the incoming government.

He warned holiday makers to celebrate in moderation and be law abiding in their activities, urging them to assist security agencies by giving timely and credible information to nip crime in the bud.

Army troops recover 75,000 litres of stolen crude oil in bonny, River state

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), have recovered about 75,000 litres of stolen crude oil in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Sources told Zagazola that troops of the 146 Battalion (Maritime) discovered a wooden boat anchored around the Lady B creeks, loaded with the crude oil suspected to have been illegally bunkered.

The recovered items were handled in accordance with the directives of OPDS, the statement added.

Military authorities reiterated their commitment to combating oil theft and illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta, urging residents and stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies to protect national resources.

Troops of Operation UDO KA have arrested a suspected spy attempting to infiltrate a military defensive position in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River.

Security sources said the suspect was apprehended at about 9:55 a.m. on Wednesday at Isabang settlement while allegedly conducting reconnaissance on troops’ locations.

According to the sources, troops of the 245 Battalion intercepted the suspect during a routine security sweep, leading to his arrest.

Items recovered from the suspect include a short locally made pistol, a cutlass, a torchlight and two mobile phones.

“During preliminary investigation, the suspect admitted to being a spy allegedly sent by a criminal group to carry out reconnaissance within the community,” the source said.

He added that the suspect also provided useful intelligence, including the identity of one Christopher Emmanuel, popularly known as “Black Stone,” as a member of the group responsible for a recent attack on troops in the area.

The sources noted that troops have since intensified aggressive patrols across the Odonget general area and its environs to deter further hostile activities.

They reaffirmed the commitment of security forces to sustaining pressure on criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents.

Troops arrest two suspected drug peddlers in Abia raid

Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Operation UDO KA have arrested two suspected drug peddlers during a raid in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.

Security sources disclosed that the operation was conducted at about 6:00 p.m. on March 14 by troops of the 145 Battalion (Rear) under Operation Crush, Sector 1.

According to the sources, the troops carried out a targeted raid on a suspected drug peddlers’ hideout located along Bende Road following credible intelligence about illicit drug activities in the area.

During the operation, two suspects were apprehended while in possession of substances suspected to be psychotropic drugs.

The troops recovered the exhibits at the scene and secured the area before concluding the operation.

Military authorities said the suspects and the recovered items had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) command in Umuahia for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Security officials noted that the operation formed part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb criminal activities within the state.

They reiterated the commitment of troops to sustain intelligence-driven operations in collaboration with relevant law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents
