One Killed, Three Injured in Bandit Attack in Safana, Katsina

A bandit attack in Bajat and Dole villages, located in Zakka Safana Local Government Area, left one person dead and three others injured on the evening of April 1, 2025.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred at approximately 6:30 PM when a group of armed assailants opened fire on the villages.
Nura Baushe, a local vigilante commander, was killed, while three others, Amadu Dole, Surajo Shehu, and Shafiu Sulaiman, sustained gunshot wounds. The injured victims were rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina for medical treatment.
The body of the deceased was handed over to his family for burial.

Gunmen kill 15 in fresh attack on Riyom community in Plateau

At least 15 persons killed and four others injured in a deadly attack by suspected armed Fulani militias on Jebbu village in Riyom Local Government Area.
Zagazola Makama gathered from security sources that the attack occurred on July 15 at about 6:45 a.m. when the assailants stormed the community and opened fire on residents.
Joint troops of Operation Safe Heaven promptly responded to the attack in collaboration with other security agencies.
“On arrival, 15 lifeless bodies were recovered, while four other victims with varying degrees of gunshot wounds were evacuated to the General Hospital in Riyom for treatment.
The corpses of the deceased have also been deposited at the same hospital’s mortuary.
Additional troops have been deployed to the area to forestall further attacks and to conduct extensive bush combing operations aimed at tracking and arresting the perpetrators.
Jebbu village had not come under attack or recorded any threat since the beginning of the farmers-herders conflict in Plateau State, making this incident unprecedented.

2 students die, 2 hospitalized after attack by schoolmates in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the death of two students and the hospitalization of two others following an attack by their schoolmates at Government Secondary School, Bichi.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the principal of the school, Yusuf Ado Yakasai, reported the incident to the police on July 15.
He said that on July 14 at about 11:30 p.m., a group of senior students allegedly lured four students Hamza Idris (19), SS3B; Umar Yusuf (18), SS2C; Ibrahim Ibrahim, SS2B; and Aliyu M. Nasir, SS2C into a hostel and inflicted injuries on them over allegations of involvement in unnatural offences.
The victims were rushed to Bichi General Hospital, where Idris and Yusuf were certified dead, while Ibrahim and Nasir were admitted and are said to be responding to treatment.
The police sources said 12 suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident. They include Suleman Abdullahi, Ahmad Sanusi, Lawan Alasan Tambai, Aliyu Idris, Abubakar Abdulaziz (all of SS3A); Ibrahim Nura, Hamza Isiyaku (SS3B); Usaini Mamuda, Masaudu Idris, Yasir Murtala (SS3C); and Abubakar Muhammad (SS3D).
Police said investigation is ongoing and that those found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Turkiye Condoles Nigeria over Passing of Buhari

The Turkish government has condoled with the government and people of Nigeria over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari who died on Sunday at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness was buried in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State on Tuesday.
Speaking on occassion on the 9th anniversary of the attempted forceful change of government in Turkey, the Turkish Ambasssdor designate, Mehmet Poroy said “the government of Turkey expressed its deep condolences to the people and the government of Nigeria, on the passing of the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari.”
Leading dignitaries at the occasion to observed a minute of silence, the ambassador also prayed that the Almighty Allah bless his soul.
Speaking on the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day ceremony, Poroy said its a day set aside to honour the memories of those who died in the process of defending democracy.
He said: “On this July 15th, Democracy and National Unity Day, I extend my respectful greetings to all our citizens and honour the memory of our heroic martyrs who gave their lives for the preservation of democratic and independent Turkey. I would like to thank once again for your presence here today in our embassy. We are grateful to you, dear friends, for sharing our feelings on the anniversary of this attempted coup, a direct threat to democracy and the will of our people in Turkey.”
The envoy also disclosed that over 200 institutions run by the group suspected to be behind the attempted coup has been taken over by Turkish institutions.
He noted that: “The fact that new investigations and arrests into the organisation continue to be launched, demonstrates the need for this struggle to be pursued with unwavering determination.”
