Police in Minna arrests 28 suspects, recover dangerous weapons

The Niger State Police Command has arrested 28 suspects in connection with youth restiveness and thuggery in Minna metropolis.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, January 25.

“In a continuous onslaught against youth restiveness, thuggery and other acts of criminality in Minna metropolis, a joint task force comprised of the Police, Military, DSS, NSCDC and Vigilantees launched an aggressive raid and house to house search on 25/01/2022 at about 0100hrs at Unguwar-Biri community area of Bosso LGA and arrested twenty eight (28) additional suspects,” he stated.

Dangerous weapons and Items recovered from the sspects included 5 cutlasses, 8 knives, 9 cutlasses, 9 sticks, 5 one wood cutter, one axe, one iron rod, one iron cutter, one scissors, and 5 shisha pipes.

Other items recovered are; 13 handsets, 17 sachets and four nylon of Indian-hemp, assorted charms, clothes and slippers.

DSP Abiodum said that the operation will be continuous to fish-out all the undesirable elements and street urchins, until the metropolis is totally rid of criminals.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Bala Kuryas, warns all trouble makers to stop or face the full wrath of the law.

All suspects are under investigation in SCID, Minna and will also be arraigned in court for prosecution as soon as investigation is concluded.

Army troops neutralise 11 terrorists, recover weapons in Sabon Birni ambush in Sokoto

Troops of 8 Division Nigerian Army, conducting Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised 11 terrorists during a precision ambush in Kurawa Village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Sources reliably informed Zagazola Makama that the operation was executed at about 0645 hours, on Sunday following credible human intelligence on the movement of a terrorist group attempting to cross towards Tara village in the same council area.

The coordinated strike was carried out by the 8 Division Garrison Strike Team leading to the successful interception of the terrorists along their crossing route.

According to the sources, the troops recovered eight AK-47 rifles after the encounter, while a follow-up exploitation operation to further clear the area is currently underway.

The ambush, described as “swift, surgical and professionally executed”, is one of the latest gains recorded under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the ongoing theatre-wide offensive aimed at dismantling terrorist and bandit networks across Sokoto, Zamfara and neighbouring corridors.

Military authorities said more details would be provided after the ongoing exploitation and assessment of the battlefield.

Zagazola reports that 8 Division has in recent months intensified both kinetic and intelligence-driven operations, leading to the degradation of several criminal enclaves and improved security across the region.

Edo: Seven suspected bandits arrested along Benin-Agbor Road

Seven suspected bandits were arrested along the Benin–Agbor Road in Edo State during stop-and-search operations, security sources confirmed.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspects, all Fulani youths, were intercepted after being offloaded from a truck at about 1800 hours on 2 December 2025. A search revealed pictures of assault rifles, including AK-47s, on their mobile phones.

Upon interrogation, the suspects claimed to have travelled from Adamawa State. Investigations are ongoing for the possible recovery of actual firearms and to determine their involvement in criminal activities.

Security agencies have urged members of the public to report any suspicious movements to help prevent criminal acts in the area.

Army troops rescued Kidnapped Reverend in Miango, arms recovered

The Nigerian army Troops have successfully rescued a kidnapped clergyman, Reverend Ephraim Yakubu, in Miango axis of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the victim was abducted in front of his residence at Agingi Village along the Rukuba Road on 3 December 2025.

Troops on a clearance patrol around the high grounds in the Miango axis engaged the kidnappers on 4 December at about 0740 hours, forcing them to flee.

Reverend Yakubu was found tied under a rock in the area and sustained injuries during captivity.

Security personnel also recovered one fabricated rifle with a magazine containing eight rounds of 9mm ammunition from the scene.

The victim was immediately evacuated to the 3 Military Specialist Hospital (3 DMSH) for medical attention.

Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing kidnappers.
