Police Train EOD Personnel, Deploys Anti Bomb Equipment

The Nigeria Police Force has effectively concluded the training of its officers attached to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit.

The training which discussed established protocols for safe explosives disposal and preventive measures ahead of the 2023 General Elections was approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, as part of his vision to ensure strategic and timely training and retraining of police officers, particularly those with dynamic specializations.

Upon conclusion of the training and quarterly conference of Commanders and heads of EOD formations across the country, where the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Unit, CP Zannah Shettima, represented the IGP, at the EOD Annex Office, Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja-Lagos State, there was the distribution of some contemporary gadgets donated by the United Nations’ Mine Action Service (UNMAS), and United States Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence (US NSDD), and others procured through the Special Intervention Fund of the IGP to bases, sub-bases and other operational formations of EOD.

The gadgets include Pack Eye Back Pack Radiation Detectors, Electronic Control Measure Frequency Jammers, Thermo Scientific RIIDEye, Viken Detection Nighthawk, Thermo Scientific FirstDefender, and F3 Mine Lab-Deep Mine detectors.

The IGP assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Police Force in its proactiveness, has emplaced measures to ensure proper sweeping of strategic locations to prevent the import of CBRN and high-yield Explosives into public spaces.

He added that EOD-CBRN personnel at all entry and exit points of the country have been put on alert to be eagle-eyed in order to prevent the importation of explosive materials illegally.

While reiterating the leadership and coordinating roles the NPF has been charged to carry out in the internal security architecture and election security management in Nigeria, the Inspector-General of Police has equally ordered Commissioners of Police and their respective supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in the 17 Zonal Commands, to continually engage with the military and other security agencies that are recognized members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to solidify the already designed operation order cum deployment strategies emplaced towards the smooth and peaceful conduct of the 2023 General Elections.

Kidnap victim rescued with machete wounds in Suleja

A 45-year-old man, identified as Samuel John, has been rescued by a joint team of police and vigilantes after being abducted and severely injured by suspected kidnappers in the Polosa area of Suleja, Niger State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, June 27, when hoodlums reportedly stormed the community and whisked the victim away from his residence.

According to the sources, a vigilante member, raised the alarm, prompting an immediate response from security operatives attached to the ‘B’ Division Suleja and members of the local vigilante group.

The combined team pursued the kidnappers into the surrounding bush. On sighting the advancing security team, the assailants attacked the victim with machetes, inflicting deep cuts on his head and both hands before abandoning him and fleeing the scene.

The victim was quickly rescued and rushed to the General Hospital Suleja, where he is currently receiving medical attention.

Abducted Sharia Court judge escapes from kidnappers in Zamfara

Alkali Usman, a Sharia Court judge attached to the Higher Sharia Court in Birnin Tudu, Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has escaped from captivity after being abducted by unknown gunmen.

Zagazola Makama learnt from reliable sources that Usman, who was reported kidnapped on June 26, returned home safely on Friday morning, June 27, at about 10:00 a.m., according to local sources.

Upon his return, the judge was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he received medical attention and was subsequently discharged.

He was later debriefed by security operatives and reunited with his family.

Authorities have not disclosed the circumstances surrounding his escape.

Soldier handed over to police for allegedly stabbing ex-colleague to death in Borno

A serving soldier has been handed over to the police in Maiduguri for allegedly stabbing a dismissed military personnel to death during an argument in the Kasuwan Fara area of the Borno State capital.

Zagazola Makama report that the suspect, identified a Lance Corporal of the 7 Division, was brought to the police by a senior officer on June 27.

Sources said that the incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on June 26, when Suleiman allegedly stabbed the victim, Musa Adamu, a dismissed soldier, in the chest with a jackknife following a heated disagreement.

The victim was rushed to the Borno State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

The police have transferred the case and the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation and possible prosecution.
