This gesture not only reflects mutual respect but also serves to reassure both supporters and skeptics about the administration’s stability and collaborative governance approach.

This year’s birthday for the VP, Kashim, and those who stood with this administration points to the significance that lies in this symbolic affirmation of the working relationship between the President and his deputy. For me, September 2, 2025, stands as a significant date to celebrate my boss, brother, friend, and leader, not only for marking the passage of time but also for honoring the multifaceted relationship shared with the VP. I, therefore, celebrate him each passing year. However, reading the President’s statement on the Vice President lit up the day as my brother and principal, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas, called my attention to the President’s statement. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described the vice president as “my brother, partner, and vice president.” Beyond commemorating age, the president’s statement symbolizes recognition of character development and sustained commitment to shared goals. The intertwining roles of brotherhood and partnership further deepen this celebration by highlighting the complex dynamics that govern familial bonds alongside professional collaboration. Brotherhood traditionally embodies loyalty, trust, and emotional support; when coupled with partnership—particularly in a leadership context—it demands additional layers of communication, mutual respect, and strategic alignment. This is what the president is saying.

The implementation of critical economic reforms—such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange windows—has stabilized Nigeria’s economy and set a foundation for sustainable growth. These policies exemplify how courage and determination between the two leaders translate into tangible improvements that benefit all Nigerians.

VP Kashim Shettima’s leadership as both Governor of Borno State for eight years and later as Senator representing Borno Central in the National Assembly exemplifies a profound commitment to leadership defined by service rather than privilege. Throughout these roles, the VP has consistently demonstrated that true leadership involves addressing the needs of the people despite overwhelming challenges, such as security threats and socio-economic difficulties. Leadership in this context transcended mere political authority; it embodied a dedication to improving lives and fostering resilience within one of Nigeria’s most vulnerable regions.

“Every day, as Vice President, you have consistently justified the choice made in selecting you as my deputy by strengthening our collective work, introducing fresh perspectives, and steadfastly upholding our commitment to Nigerians. Leadership at such a high level demands not only strategic acumen but also unwavering dedication to public service. Your contributions have been instrumental in driving the administration’s agenda forward, reflecting a deep understanding of the challenges facing our nation and a resolute determination to address them effectively. This consistent performance serves as a testament to your capability and validates the decision made in your favor.

“One of the most significant ways you have justified this choice is through your ability to bring innovative ideas and fresh perspectives into governance.  As individuals approach significant milestones in life, such as the threshold of sixty years, reflection on past achievements and anticipation of future endeavors become paramount. The age of 59 represents not only a culmination of decades filled with experience but also an opportunity for rejuvenation and renewed purpose. Renewed vitality at the age of 59 serves as a crucial foundation for sustaining an active lifestyle that supports both physical health and mental well-being. The phrase “Happy Birthday, Kashim, and Many Happy Returns!” is a culturally rich and historically significant greeting that conveys more than just felicitations on the anniversary of one’s birth. Ramadan, a month of fasting and prayer observed by Muslims worldwide, represents a time of introspection and community bonding. Over the years, I have fought many battles to defend and promote the unique vision and transformative agenda he embodies—a vision anchored in progress, unity, and resilience. As I reflect on our journey together, it is crucial to highlight the enduring significance of this bond, forged in the fires of mutual respect and brotherhood.

Kashim Shettima is not merely a politician nor a fleeting public figure; he is an embodiment of an era—a leading character in the unfolding political struggle in Nigeria today.
