Removal of Illegal Structures at Baga Market

By: Halima Abatcha

The Baga Market, which has been a prominent marketplace for over three decades, is currently facing significant congestion issues. The overcrowding has led to heavy traffic, posing challenges for both motorists and pedestrians.

The situation at Baga Market is a cause for concern as traders have encroached upon restricted areas and even extended their businesses towards the highway, exacerbating the traffic problems.

The Motor Park, serving the nine local government areas of Northern Borno, is situated within Baga Market. Additionally, the Fish Market, which attracts customers from across the nation and neighboring countries, is also located there.

Regrettably, the current state of affairs in the market is dire. Motorists, vendors, and traders have occupied all available spaces, making it difficult for passersby and buyers who visit the market daily.

Recognizing the hardships faced by both motorists and pedestrians, the Borno State government has swiftly taken action to address these issues. The government has initiated a market reorganization plan, including the removal of all illegal structures obstructing smooth traffic flow and business activities.

The public is urged to exercise patience and support the government’s efforts to decongest the market for the benefit of all stakeholders.
