Zulum: I have been praying for Shettima’s emergence as Vice President since 2019

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has said his predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima, has been in his prayers to become the Vice President of Nigeria since he succeeded him in 2019.

Speaking while hosting the Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima to a Sallah lunch at the Government House in Maiduguri on Friday, Zulum who said he will seriously miss the huge support he got from President Muhammadu Buhari, however started that he is highly relieved that the combination of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima are the ones stepping in.

Zulum described the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s victory in the February 25th Presidential elections as the greatest relief to him and his administration.

He said: “It is one of my greatest joys that here today, HE Senator Kashim Shettima is sitting in our midst as the Vice President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria waiting to be sworn in. It has been one of my prayers since I was sworn in as governor in 2019.”

He added that: “On a different occasion, President Buhari has lamented that nobody is as supportive as it should be in addressing the problems faced in Borno State. It is true that this has been one of my nightmares. Insha Allah in the next four years to come I have with me a brother, and indeed a boss that will support me and support the government and people of Borno State. We have incoming President Bola Tinubu who dearly loves Borno State and shares our pains”.

Zulum had recently during his reelection victory speech, described President Buhari as his greatest pillar in nearly four years of his first term that will end next Month. Zulum said Buhari gave him incredible support by his relentless fight against Boko Haram and numerous humanitarian and developmental interventions to Borno State.

Inspector dies after altercation which led to attack by a fellow police family in Lagos barracks

An Inspector, Ibrahim Usman, has died following a physical altercation involving a fellow resident and her children at the Queen Barracks, Apapa, Lagos.

Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on Friday at about 11:10 a.m. after a misunderstanding between W/Inspector Gambo Yusuf and the wife of the deceased, both occupants of the barracks.

In the course of the altercation, Yusuf and her children allegedly assaulted Inspector Usman, knocking him to the ground where he lost consciousness.

He was immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Apapa, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

A team of detectives visited the scene of the incident and the hospital, where the body was inspected and photographed before being deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Yusuf and her children have been taken into custody and are being investigated over the incident.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, has ordered a thorough investigation to ensure that justice is served,”said the sources.

Bandits kill driver, abduct five passengers on Bagaga-Anka road

Armed bandits attacked a Golf vehicle on the Bagaga-Anka road in Zamfara State on April 26, 2025, killing the driver and abducting five passengers.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred at about 11:40 a.m. when the bandits blocked the road, shot dead the driver, and abducted the five passengers traveling in the vehicle.

Upon receiving the distress report, joint security forces were swiftly mobilized and dispatched to the scene. The injured driver was taken to Bagega Primary Healthcare for treatment.

Efforts to rescue the abducted victims are ongoing, with security agencies intensifying their search for the perpetrators.

Police rescue 68 trafficking victims, arrest 16 suspects in Oyo State

Police in Oyo State have rescued 68 victims of human trafficking and arrested 16 suspects, including 10 males and 6 females, following a raid on a hideout in Kajorepo community, Agabala Daniel Area.

Sources reliably informed Zagazola Makama that the operation, carried out on April 26, 2025, was based on credible intelligence from the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the State Intelligence Division (SID).

The rescued victims include 47 males, 20 females, and one child. They were found locked in a building where they were reportedly being held with the intent to be trafficked.

The suspects were taken into custody for interrogation, while the victims were provided with care and assistance. The building was sealed off, and patrol teams have been deployed to prevent any attempts by an angry mob to destroy the property.

The sources added that further investigations are ongoing to dismantle the trafficking network.
