Zulum offers house, scholarships to family of killed CJTF

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has given approval for the release of N10m and a house to the bereaved family of a popular member of the Civilian Joint Task Force who was killed by the Boko Haram.
Babagana Mallam Tela known as Kadau by people in Bama local government area of Borno State was the overall commander of the ‘Civilian JTF’ in the area before he was killed by the terrorist grouping in June, 2022.
The ‘Civilian JTF’ is a prominent volunteer group of combat ready youths, famous for using their local understanding of Borno’s terrain to fight Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.
Members of the group have been working closely with the Nigerian military and has members operating under sectors modeled after military battalions to check the excesses of the terrorist group.
Kadau was ambushed by Boko Haram, while leading his team, Sector One on a routine patrol outside Bama town.
Zulum, during his meeting with counter-insurgency volunteers in Bama during the week, paid tribute to Kadau for paying the supreme price in defense of Borno and Nigeria.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Isa Gusau, Zulum before leaving Bama on Thursday evening, visited Kadau’s deceased family to register his condolence, after he had previously sent representatives.
The Governor directed the release of N10m for the families upkeep over a period of time. He directed that the family opens an account with joint signatories, to which the N10m, would be deposited.
Zulum also directed that a house worth another N10m be purchased for Kadau’s bereaved family so that they should stop paying rent.
The governor further directed that all children of the late commander be awarded Borno Government’s scholarship throughout their education which he described as “very small reward for all that Kadau did in his contributions to returning peace in Bama and by extension Borno State and Nigeria”.
Zulum had before that donation, offered cash, food and textiles to all 683 volunteers involved with fighting Boko Haram in Bama and he had paid tribute to all of them for their services.
Zulum had, back in June 2019, increased the monthly allowances of all volunteers across Borno State, approved procurement of more vehicles and security gadgets for them.
The governor also approved massive recruitment of hunters to join volunteer groups and had them deployed to their communities to compliment the efforts of armed forces in fighting terrorism.

Farmer injured in herders’ attack in Konduga

A farmer has been hospitalized after sustaining severe machete wounds in an attack by suspected herders at Jakana Village, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when a group of herders reportedly led their cattle into a beans farm belonging to locals and grazed on the crops.
During an attempt by Mohammad Ali Fantami, 30, of Kadamari Lamboa bush, to drive the cattle away, one of the herders allegedly attacked him with a machete, severing his left hand and inflicting deep cuts on his neck before escaping.
The victim was evacuated to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where he is said to be responding to treatment.
Efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the perpetrators as investigations continue into the incident.

Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadin Kai have foiled a series of ambush attacks by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists along the Damasak–Gubio road in Magumeri axis of Borno State.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the troops, who were on a fighting patrol as part of Operation Desert Sanity IV, came under fire from suspected terrorists on arrival at Binduldul.
Sources stated that the troops responded with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to flee in disarray. Reinforcements led by the Commanding Officer of the Battalion later exploited the scene, recovering two motorcycles, one AK-47 rifle, five blankets, three praying mats, a spare motorcycle tyre and two gallons of engine oil.
The sources added that one terrorist was neutralised during the encounter.
Furthermore, at about 3:05 p.m. on the same day, while withdrawing from the area, the troops encountered another ambush involving an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack followed by heavy gunfire from ISWAP fighters near Kardio village.
The soldiers successfully repelled the assault, safely detonated another IED along their main supply route, and returned to base without any casualty.
Photographs from the operation indicated successful recovery of items and neutralisation of threats in the area.

One killed, three injured as gunmen attack farmers in Plateau

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the death of one person and injuries to three others following an attack by suspected Fulani militias on Kopmur village, Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the incident occurred on Oct. 22 at about 4:00 p.m., when the armed assailants stormed a house where some local farmers had taken shelter and opened fire.
The attack led to the death of Dashan Mwanar, 42, while Sonma Mwanar, 32, Kyenkyes Dakup, 26, and Joy Vumshak, 25, sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Bokkos Division, led a team to the scene, where the injured victims were rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment.
The police said the deceased’s remains had been released to his relatives for burial after the family declined an autopsy.
Meanwhile, sources assured that investigation is ongoing, with intensified efforts to apprehend the culprits and prevent further attacks in the area.
