11 pupils hospitalized after eating school meals

11 Pupils have been hospitalized in Osun state after eating the daily free food served to them recently.
The incident caused palpable fear in osogbo recently after eleven pupils of St James Primary School, Owo-Ope, area were rushed to different hospitals after allegedly eating food served to them in their schools.
The parents of the affected children said the food that was served by some vendors under the O’Meal programme was obviously a contaminated meal which explains the vomiting.
They said the affected pupils started experiencing stomach upset and were vomiting no sooner than they returned home from school.
Upon interrogation, the children disclosed that the O’Meal vendors served each of them a plate of rice with egg which they were reacting to.
Out of fear and desperation some of them were reportedly rushed to nearby hospitals where they were admitted and their stomachs flushed out to keep them alive.
One of the pupils name withheld confirmed that they started stooling and vomiting when they left school around 1:00pm.
Some of the mothers of the children affected expressed anger alleging that they perceived rotten eggs from their mouths.
Meanwhile the state government has ordered full investigations into the reported cases of food poisoning at St James Primary School 03 B, Owoope Osogbo.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, said the matter was reported to him by the Special Adviser on O-Meal, Grace Ayodele.“ and he subsequently directed stoppage of further cooking service at the affected schools pending the outcome of the investigations.
“The affected cooks in the said schools alongside the Planning officer for the O-Meal programme have also been summoned to a meeting ” he said.
