24 Varsity Students abducted as bandits invade their hostel in Zamfara

24 students of the Federal University of Gusau have been abducted in the early hours of Friday after bandits invaded the Sabon-Gida community of Bungudu council area of Zamfara State.

A source within the area, told newsmen on phone that over 24 students mostly ladies,were suspected to have been abducted during the wee hours of the morning before first light.

The source told newsmen on phone that the bandits invaded the community at around 3 am in the morning shooting indiscriminately in the air to scare everyone.

He said that three students hostels were attacked and most of the students were taken away as hostages by the bandits who came in their numbers.

“They entered the town around 3 am and started shooting indiscriminately. We are yet to confirm the number of students kidnapped because the bandits entered three hostels and kidnapped almost all the students mostly ladies.” he revealed.

He said that even though the troops of the Nigerian Army close by engaged the bandits in a fierce fight, that did not stop the criminals from escaping with the kidnapped victims.

“They were fiercely engaged with the army troops but the way these bandits operate, they will divide themselves into two, one group will move with the kidnapped victims while the other will stay behind to protect the first group by fighting back. “he said.

Sabon-Gida is a rural community opposite the main campus of the Federal University of Gusau that is about 20 km from the state capital, Gusau.

As at the time of writing this report, the Zamfara state police command was yet to respond on the development.

Meanwhile, some of the ladies are believed to have escaped from the grip of the bandits even as men of the Nigerian Airforce chased them as they tried to escape with the students.

Security sources in Gusau said that the troops of the Nigerian Airforce were still giving them a hot chase as at the time of writing this report.
