The Police in plateau has recovered additional 35 rustled cows during a routine patrol around Mangun District in Mangu Local Government Area, sources from the Command confirmed on Friday.
The sources said that the Police officers attached to Mangu Division made the recovery on May 1 at about 7:00 p.m., during a surveillance operation aimed at curbing livestock theft and restoring peace to the area.
The sources said that 24 of the recovered cows have since been reunited with their rightful owners following a meticulous screening and identification process conducted jointly by the Police, the Executives of the Cattle Breeders Association, and representatives of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association.
The remaining 11 unclaimed cows are currently in the custody of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Mangu, pending identification and verification of ownership.
Police authorities assured that efforts are ongoing to trace and identify the legitimate owners of the remaining animals to ensure full restitution.
The sources said that the recovery is part of the Command’s intensified operations to combat cattle rustling and promote peaceful coexistence among communities in Plateau.
But the police did not arrest any suspect associated with the killing of the herdsmen and theft of the livestock.
