Paris-bound ‘businessman’ excretes 93 wraps of heroin at Abuja Airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 40-year-old Madrid, Spain-based ‘businessman’, Sherif Egbo Ally at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja while attempting to board an Air France flight to Paris, France, after they discovered he ingested illicit drugs.

According to a statement on Sunday by the spokesman of the anti-narcotics agency, Femi Babafemi, Egbo was arrested on Saturday 14th October after body scanner revealed he had wraps of illicit drugs in his stomach.

He was subsequently placed under observation at the agency’s exhibit recovery room where he excreted 93 pellets of heroin weighing 2.222 kilogrammes. He subsequently in his statement, claimed he works at a chicken hatchery farm in Madrid, Spain and also into drug trafficking business.

In the same vein, NDLEA operatives at the NAHCO imports shed of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos last Monday seized a consignment of 10 cartons containing 500,000 pills of tramadol 225mg branded as tapentadol.

Babafemi said the cargo, which was shipped from India through Qatar Airways with airwaybill number MAWB 319-01227236 was purported to be a transit cargo to Monrovia, Liberia, but the lid was blown open through partnership and real time intelligence sharing mechanisms between NDLEA and its Liberian counterpart.

The spokesman said an attempt by an intending passenger to Muscat, Oman on Qatar airways, Ngene Chinecherem to export 11.1 kilogrammes of skunk and 600 grammes of tramadol concealed in foodstuffs through the Lagos airport was thwarted by NDLEA officers who arrested him and seized the illicit substances.

In another operation, NDLEA officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigations, DOGI, attached to courier companies on Sunday 15th October intercepted 1 kilogramme methamphetamine concealed in containers of body cream going to New Zealand as well as another consignment of 2.5 kilogrammes cocaine and phenacetin hidden in walls of a carton heading to Saudi Arabia.

Babafemi said two more seizures: 112 grammes of Dimethyl Sulfone and 583 grammes of cocaine and phenacetin were made at another courier company in Lagos last Wednesday, while the Dimethyl Sulfone was concealed in the hollow of a motor driving shaft going to New Zealand, the consignment of cocaine and phenacetin was packed into a bottle of body cream heading to Saudi Arabia.

He disclosed that in Imo state, operatives on Sunday 15th October intercepted a Mercedes Benz container truck marked ABN 418 YN parked in an isolated area along Owerri – Onitsha expressway. A search of the abandoned truck led to the recovery of 168 bags of skunk weighing 1, 854 kilogrammes.

He added that not less than 1,381.3 kilogrammes of the same substance were seized in four interdiction operations in parts of Edo state including: Ekpon community, Igueben local government area , Iguiye forest in Ovia North East local government area, Iruekpen, Ndokwa West where a suspect, Monday Samuel Nwocha was arrested and Egwalor village in Onwude local government area where the duo of Obune Prince and Chika Obi was arrested and their Audi 80 salon car marked BEN 406 CL loaded with cannabis sativa, recovered.

In Kano state, an ex-convict, Aminu Suleiman, 46, was arrested along with Haruna Abdurrahaman, 41, and Ojo Esezobor, 34, at Gadar Tamburawa area of the state on Saturday 14th October while 106 kilogrammes of cannabis were recovered from them. Aminu was first arrested with 22 kilogrammes of cannabis on 3rd June 2022 and convicted by the court on 24th November 2022. Four other suspects: Inusa Ali, Yahaya Musa, Abba Audu, Ali Abubakar, and Bunu Kyari were also arrested at Gadar Tamburawa area of Kano last Monday for dealing in 75.3 kilogrammes of skunk.

He said while operatives of the Zone J Command of the agency seized 478 kilogrammes of cannabis in a forest in Ikere Ekiti last Friday, those of Ondo state command recovered a total of 928 kilogrammes of the same substance in a bush by Shagari market, along Ifon-Owo express road, and Ibola camp, Ipele forest.

In Borno state, a suspect, Sani Mohammed, 31, was arrested on Saturday 21st October with 182 kilogrammes of cannabis at Njimtilo, along Maiduguri – Damaturu road.

Babafemi said Commands across the 36 states and the FCT equally continued their War Against Drug Abuse, WADA, sensitisation lectures in schools, communities, work places and others. Some of these include: WADA sensitisation lecture for students of Ogborhill Secondary School, Aba, Abia state; WADA sensitisation lecture to Students of Nana Aisha Memorial Islamiyya Secondary School, Buba-Shongo, Gombe; WADA sensitisation lecture at Awe High School, Awe, same at Smiles and Surprises Academy, Onna, Akwa Ibom; WADA sensitisation lecture for students of Sango High School, Ijoko, Ogun state while the Zone C Command of NDLEA along with Kwara state command also had WADA sensitisation town hall meeting with principals of secondary schools from five local government areas of the state.

Meanwhile, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd) while commending the arrests and seizures of the past week by officers and men of the NAIA, MMIA, Imo, Ondo, Kano, Edo, Zone J Commands as well as those of DOGI, charged them and their compatriots across all formations of the Agency to continue to remain vigilant and double their efforts especially with the desperation of criminal networks to make money by all means towards the end of the year season.

A drug kingpin who had invaded a manhunt for three years has been apprehended by operatives of the anti-narcotics agency.

The spokesman of the he National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Femi Babafemi in a statement on Sunday said:

Three years after launching a manhunt for him over drug trafficking offences, a notorious drug kingpin, 36-year-old Sunday Ibigide has been arrested by operatives of the agency in Asaba, Delta state while attempting to move 250 blocks of skunk weighing 138 kilogrammes with his distribution bus.

He said Ibigide came under searchlight on 19th March 2022 in connection with the seizure of 24.137 kilogrammes of same psychoactive substance and 10 grammes of molly but thereafter went underground.

Babafemi said however, following credible intelligence, NDLEA operatives in Delta state were able to arrest him along with one of his aides Clement Osuya, 27, while they were trying to move the 250 parcels of skunk for distribution on Sunday 10th August 2025.

In another clampdown, the spokesman said no fewer than six suspects were arrested last Thursday and Friday when NDLEA operatives supported by the military and vigilantes raided three cannabis farms in Enugu Ezike, Enugu state where a total of 37,500 kilogrammes skunk was destroyed on 15 hectares of farmland.

He disclosed that those arrested include: Ugwuanyi Chinaso, 23; James Negedu, 26; Sopuruchukwu Obido, 22; Ebuka Onu, 30; Ukwueze Sunday, 42; and Oguche Friday; while 74.5 kilogrammes of the illicit substance was recovered for the prosecution of the suspects.

Babafemi said while 20,700 pills of tramadol and cocodamol were seized from a suspect Emmanuel Ayogu, 53, by NDLEA officers on patrol along Nsukka road, 9th mile Enugu on Saturday, two other suspects: Nsubechukwu Achidde, 24, and Osiaja Simple Frank, 41, were arrested with 27.6 kilogrammes skunk same day at the new market, Enugu.

In Lagos state, a 52-year-old woman Muyibat Mumuni was arrested with her son Faruk Mumuni, 25, by NDLEA operatives at Ladega street, Mushin last Wednesday for storing and distributing 298 blocks of Ghana Loud weighing 149 kilogrammes while another suspect Emmanuel Samuel was nabbed last Friday in Ajah area of Lekki where 8.5 kilogrammes Canadian Loud, a strain of cannabis was recovered from their apartment

He revealed that not less than 128,000 capsules of tramadol were recovered from a suspect Sani Mohammed, 32, who was arrested by NDLEA officers at Jauro Jatau, Gombe, Gombe state lasr Monday, while a total of 337,800 capsules of the same pharmaceutical opioid were seized by operatives on patrol along Okene-Lokoja highway, Kogi state from the driver of a commercial bus, Sulaiman Oyedokun, 47, coming from Onitsha, Anambra state and heading to Kotangora, Niger state.

Babafemi said while a total of 11,250 kilogrammes skunk was destroyed on 4.5 hectares of farmland last Tuesday when NDLEA operatives assisted by Sardauna Emirate Council and the Nigeria Forest Hunters Security Service raided the Tanmiya forest in Sardauna local government area, Taraba state, 29,840 capsules of tramadol were seized from a suspect Saleh Babangida, 20, at a check point in Wukari area of the state on Saturday.

In Kaduna state, two suspects: Mohammed Amdife, 46, and Sulaiman Mohammed, 22, were arrested in connection with the seizure of 22,640 pills of tramadol and rohypnol at Gwargwaje check point, Zaria and Tudun Wada area of the state. Two other suspects: Caroline David, 51, and Abdulhadi Umar, 30, were nabbed over the seizure of 111.1 kilogrammes skunk intercepted along Zaria- Kano road.

He said at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Onne, Rivers state, a total of 875,000 bottles of codeine based syrup worth over N6.1billion in street value and 3.5 million pills of trodol benzhexol valued at N1.7 billion were recovered from five containers under NDLEA intelligence tracking and watch-list during joint examination with Customs Service and other security agencies last Wednesday and Thursday at the West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) of the Onne port.

In Edo state, NDLEA operatives last Wednesday recovered 24 bags of skunk weighing 432 kilogrammes in a bush along Warake-Auchi road in Etsako West local government area, while 130 kilogrammes of same substance was seized at a warehouse in Sobe, Owan West local government are the following day.

Babafemi said a suspect Tahiru Manga, 25, was nabbed by NDLEA officers along Zaria-Kano road, with 16 kilogrammes skunk and another suspect Ibrahim Audu, 47, arrested with 76 kilogrammes of the same psychoactive substance at Gadar Tamburawa along Zaria-Kano road, Kano state last Wednesday.

He also said no fewer than 4,320 ampoules of ketamine injection were intercepted by NDLEA operatives at Gbaji checkpoint along Badagry-Lagos highway last Monday with a suspect Akeem Adegun arrested.

Babafemi said in like manner, command and formations of the agency across the country continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities to schools, worship centres, work places and communities among others in the past week.

Meanwhile, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd) while commending the officers and men of PHPC, Gombe, Kogi, Lagos, Edo, Kano, Delta, Taraba, and Seme commands for the arrests, and seizures,, enjoined them and their colleagues across the country to continue with the ongoing balanced approach to the drug control efforts of the agency.

Gunmen abduct village head’s three children in Kwara

Armed bandits have abducted three children of the Village Head of Gamalegi community in Lafiagi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The Vigilante Commander of Gbugbu Zone, Mr. Suleiman, said the incident occurred on Thursday at about 2:30 a.m., when the attackers invaded the community, shooting sporadically.

He said the gunmen stormed the house of the Village Head, Alhaji Hassan, and whisked away his three children – 15-year-old Aliyu Alhassan, 17-year-old Sheshi Alhassan, and 14-year-old Ibrahim Alhassan.

According to him, vigilantes, soldiers, police and local hunters immediately mobilised and launched a bush-combing operation to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

He added that the operation was ongoing as of the time of filing this report.

Two killed, two abducted in bandit attack in Zamfara

Armed bandits have killed two persons and abducted two others in an attack on Ruwan Bore village, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Monday when a group of armed men invaded the village, shooting sporadically.

“Two persons were shot dead while two others were abducted to an unknown destination,”said the sources.

The sources added that upon receipt of the report, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA were mobilised to the area in search of the perpetrators and to rescue the abducted victims.

The sources said assured pf efforts track the attackers.
