….. Unveils Economy Empowerment and Health Support Scheme for elderly in Borno

The Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIES) borne out of commitment to welfare of the elderly citizens is aimed at providing economic empowerment and healthcare services to the elderly across all the states of the federation including the FCT. The targeted beneficiaries are the elderly from the age of 65 and above, as well as the physically challenged.

Unveiling the Scheme at the Cyprian Ekwensi center for arts and culture Garki abuja on the 21st of December the National Chairman and First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu represented by the National Vice chairman and wife of the vice president Hajiya Nana Shettima stated that the initiative has earmarked Nine hundred and Fifty Million Naira to be shared to the beneficiaries. Each state, according to Hajiya Nana shettima, is allocated twenty-five million Naira for onward distribution. She urged the senior citizens to embrace life to the fullest, prioritizing their health and bond with loved ones.

Hajiya Nana Shettima emphasized that in the spirit of this season which is a time of joy and comfort ,the administration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu seeks for your continued support and prayers as the nation look forward to better days ahead.

During the symbolic presentation, the wife of the vice president announced that Beneficiaries are to take home 100,000 Naira to assist them during the festive period .

In an opening remarks the Minister for State FCT Dr Mariya Mahmoud Bunure said the Mission of the Renewed Hope Initiative is not just about distributing material items,it is also about fostering a sense of community, compassion and respect for our elders, youths, girl child and widows.

The minister said the distribution by the First Lady is a gesture that reflects her commitment to ensuring the comfort and well-being of those who have paved the way for us.

Dr Mariya added that as we hand out these items, let us also take a moment to engage with our elders, listen to their stories, and learn from their rich tapestry of life experiences.

High point of the event was interactive session with the elderly and an interview by a physically challenged Reporter from a national broadcast station by wife of the vice president Hajiya Nana Shettima aside the symbolic presentation of cash and gift items.

The Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) for the FCTA is coordinated by the mandate secretary women affairs secretariat Mrs Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi.

Soldier handed over to police for allegedly stabbing ex-colleague to death in Borno

A serving soldier has been handed over to the police in Maiduguri for allegedly stabbing a dismissed military personnel to death during an argument in the Kasuwan Fara area of the Borno State capital.

Zagazola Makama report that the suspect, identified a Lance Corporal of the 7 Division, was brought to the police by a senior officer on June 27.

Sources said that the incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on June 26, when Suleiman allegedly stabbed the victim, Musa Adamu, a dismissed soldier, in the chest with a jackknife following a heated disagreement.

The victim was rushed to the Borno State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

The police have transferred the case and the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation and possible prosecution.

IED explosions kill four, injure 18 others in Yobe

At least four persons have been confirmed dead and 18 others injured following two separate improvised explosive device (IED) explosions suspected to have been planted by ISWAP terrorists in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Zagazola Makama report that the first incident occurred on Friday morning along the Goniri–Buni Yadi road when a commercial pickup van conveying traders to the weekly Buni Yadi market ran over an IED near Bultaram village.

The explosion fatally injured several passengers, three of whom were confirmed dead upon arrival at the Yobe State Specialist Hospital in Damaturu. Eighteen others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were admitted for treatment.

Medical personnel at the hospital confirmed that the corpses of the deceased were deposited at the morgue for autopsy.

A few hours later, a second explosion occurred in the same area when an unidentified cyclist unknowingly stepped on another IED. He was rushed to Buni Yadi General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Security and emergency response teams, including explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) units and local vigilante groups, have since been deployed to the area for clearance operations and to prevent further casualties.

Surveillance and monitoring efforts are ongoing, as authorities continue to comb the surrounding area for additional threats.

Dismissed soldier surrenders to police over murder case in Ogun

A dismissed soldier, Yemisi Poroye, who is the principal suspect in a conspiracy and murder case reported earlier on June 25 has surrendered to the Police in Ogun state.

Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect turned himself in at about 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, following intensified police efforts to track him down.

The sources said that three other suspects earlier arrested in connection with the case, along with relevant exhibits, had already been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Abeokuta, for discreet investigation.

The sources added that the circumstances surrounding the murder and the dismissed soldier’s alleged role are currently under investigation.
