Yobe: Bakers urge Buni to keep his promises of assistance to members

Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, has been urged to fulfill his promises to assist the bakery owners in the Potiskum local government area of the state.
The acting chairman of the bakery owners of Potiskum local government, Alhaji Aliyu Hassan Afuwa, made the call in an interview with the Newsmen in Potiskum.
He said most of our members have been crippled as a result of luck of capital because this hard ship has made them down and all that they have has been finished. There are now sitting ideal; they don’t have anything to do. He noted that the cost of the materials is skyrocketing because now a bag of flour is $50,000, while a bag of sugar is $78,000, and other ingredients have also jumped up.
“Therefore, we are appealing to His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, Chiroman Gujba, to look into this critical condition that our members are in. I know Governor Buni is a person who is always sympathetic with his people,” Afuwa said.
“I have four bakery houses in Potiskum and one in Geidam, and in each one, about 50 people are working there; therefore, about over two hundred and fifty people are working under me, earning a salary every month, and feeding their families.
Alhaji Aliyu Hassan Afuwa, who is also the secretary of the bakery owners, revealed that we are reducing the rate of unemployment in the country by engaging youths and people to work in our factories, adding that our people need intervention from the government. I know this government, under the able leadership of Governor Buni, will assist us.
The chairman also appeals to the federal government to come to the aid of the people of this country. People are suffering enough in Nigeria; most of the people cannot even eat three times a day, and people need emergency assistance.
He calls on their members to be patient. Definitely, people have to be patient. Things are getting worse; the cost of living is increasing, people are suffering, and we know the government is doing its best to tackle these problems of the cost of living in the country.

The operation was conducted on Sept. 4, 2026, following credible intelligence on the presence of terrorists around the Yantumaki Forest area.
