President Tinubu Okays Establishment Of Federal Varsity In Southern Kaduna

** As VP Shettima consoles Kukah family over passing of traditional ruler

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has consented to a proposal to establish a federal university in Southern Kaduna.

Vice President Kashim Shettima who revealed this also disclosed that there are ongoing discussions to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

VP Shettima gave the hint at the weekend during a condolence visit to the Kukah family on the death of His Highness, Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom and family member of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.

“With Senator Katung and the member of the House of Representatives, we have reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and he has consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna,” VP Shettima said during his visit to Ikulu Kingdom, Kamuru, in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

Speaking at the residence of the late traditional ruler,
the Vice President emphasized the commitment of the President Tinubu administration to the development of Southern Kaduna, citing the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as evidence of the President’s attention to the security needs of the region.

“Be rest assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the people of Kaduna and the people of Southern Kaduna at heart,” he stated.

Shettima also commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his inclusive governance approach, stating that “government is about linking all component parts to have a sense of belonging.”

He pledged that the federal government will work with the state government to ensure development reaches Southern Kaduna, particularly in road infrastructure.

Earlier, Bishop Kukah expressed gratitude to the Vice President on behalf of the family over the visit, saying, “I want to thank you on behalf of this family. Thank you for being with us.

“You can see the nature of the place in which we live. It took you around three and a half hours to get here. The road is largely broken. I know you will remain a friend of this Ikulu nation and a friend of this community. We are honoured to have you,” he added.

Police rescue 10 abducted commuters in Kogi

Security forces have rescued 10 abducted commuters along the Ochadamu–Anyigba Road in Ofu Local Government Area.

It will be recalled that the victims were kidnapped on Aug. 11 near Ugbakpedo village, prompting a rescue mission by police operatives, vigilantes, and local hunters.

“On Aug. 13, at about 4:30 a.m., during an intensive bush combing operation supported with the use of tear gas, the abductors abandoned the victims and fled.

“All 10 victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families,” said the sources.

Security sources said intelligence gathering, surveillance, and further bush combing were ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing suspects.

Police arrest journalist in Ogun for alleged possession of live ammunition

The police in Ogun have arrested a journalist for alleged unlawful possession of a live AK-47 ammunition.

Sources who confirmed the incident on Wednesday said that the suspect, identified as Emmanuel Chidi Maha, 30, works with The Nation newspaper in Lagos.

“Maha was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 by a team of anti-robbery operatives led by ASP Wahab Ayinla.

“He was intercepted while driving a blue Toyota Corolla with registration number LAGOS JJJ 43 DY, which had tinted glasses. A live AK-47 bullet was found inside the vehicle,” said the sources.

The sources added that the suspect, along with his vehicle, was taken to the police station.

The sources said discreet investigation is ongoing.

Bandit kill farmer, injure two others in Plateau

Suspected bandits have killed a 55-year-old farmer in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau state.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on Tuesday at Gwom Rim village at about 7:45 a.m.

It was gathered that the victim, Stephen Maigadi Jatau, was shot dead on his farm by unknown assailants.

It added that two other men, Josiah Davholu, and Davou Sunday, who rushed to rescue the farmer after hearing gunshots, were also shot and injured.

“The injured were taken to General Hospital, Sambak, for treatment, while the corpse was released to the family for burial after an autopsy was declined.
