Three Cameroonian Nationals Involved in Boat Mishap in Taraba

The Police in Taraba State have confirmed a boat mishap involving three Cameroonian nationals in Takum Local Government Area of the state.
A police source disclosed that information about the incident was received on June 17 by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Takum Division from a good Samaritan.
According to the source, the boat capsized on June 16 while conveying the foreign nationals across a river in the area.
The source said that upon receiving the report, the DPO led a team to the scene to ascertain the situation.
“Preliminary findings revealed that three Cameroonian nationals were on board the boat when it capsized.
“Two of the occupants survived after reportedly holding onto sticks in the river until they were rescued by local residents, while one person remains missing,” the source said.
The sources further stated that representatives of the Cameroonian community had been mobilised to assist in establishing the identities of the victims involved in the incident.
According to the source, residents living along the riverbank are also assisting in efforts to locate the missing person, whose body is yet to be recovered.
The police said monitoring of the situation is ongoing as search efforts continue.

Troops of the 19 Battalion (Rear) have intercepted a suspected kidnapper during a response to intelligence reports in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Military sources said the operation was carried out at about 3:00 p.m. on June 17 at Olowo Ra following intelligence on a vehicle allegedly linked to kidnapping activities in Ode-Aye community, Okitipupa Local Government Area.
According to the sources, the suspect attempted to evade arrest, prompting troops to engage the vehicle, during which the driver sustained gunshot injuries and the vehicle subsequently crashed into a gutter.
The suspect was confirmed dead at the scene.
Troops also recovered products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) from the vehicle during the operation.
The corpse, the vehicle, and the recovered items were handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation, while the remains of the suspect were deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ore.
Authorities said the situation had been brought under control, with further investigations ongoing.

Troops Rescue Security Personnel, Recover Arms After Mob Attack in Oyo

Troops of the 2 Division Garrison have intervened in a mob attack at Ojurin Mammy Market in Lagalu Local Government Area of Oyo State, rescuing three police personnel and a civilian driver who were assaulted by unknown individuals.
Military sources said the incident occurred at about 6:46 p.m. on June 18, when the victims were attacked by a mob who mistook them for armed robbers while they were dressed in plain clothes.
The victims were later identified as personnel attached to the Violent Crimes and Response Unit Annex, Iyana Church, Alakia, Ibadan.
Troops who responded swiftly to the distress situation succeeded in rescuing the victims from the mob and restoring order in the area.
The civilian driver involved in the incident reportedly sustained varying degrees of injury and was evacuated to the 2 Division Medical Services and Hospital for treatment.
During the operation, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one riot gun, and 25 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the scene.
Authorities said the situation had been brought under control, while efforts were ongoing to prevent further escalation and ensure public safety in the area.

Troops, NDLEA Raid Cannabis Camp in Edo, Arrest Suspect

Troops of the 4 Brigade, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have conducted a successful raid operation at Ebora Camp in Illushi, Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Security sources said the joint operation, carried out at about 8:30 a.m. on June 19, led to the arrest of one suspect in possession of 10 bags of cannabis sativa weighing about 300 kilogrammes each.
The operatives also discovered and destroyed a large cannabis farm within the general area during the operation.
According to the sources, the suspect and the recovered exhibits were handed over to the NDLEA command in Irrua for further investigation and prosecution.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb illicit drug cultivation and trafficking in the region.
