Man stabs wife over argument for N60,000 “adashe” money

By: Sam Kayode

Another violent and jealous husband Samuel Matthew is now on the run after stabbing his wife over contribution money she picked from her friends last week and refused to part with it.

Matthew is said to be a regular visitor of the beer parlor close to their house at Angle D Jos South council area and is alleged to be combining his drinking sprees with hard drugs which further toxified their marriage.

Eye witnesses told our Correspondent that the relationship of the couple had long gone toxic because they have been having serious physical and verbal fights which had attracted the attention of neighbors on several occasions.

At a particular time, when the woman feared for her life, she had to pack to her parents’ house to avoid this very harm that had befallen her but the man played the sober card and the wife Mercy returned.

“We all thought he will sober up this time around and stop taking drugs but sadly see what we have on our hands. More trouble because we are yet to see the husband to ask what the remote reason for this murder was.

” We have been able to settle most of their fracas but this time around trouble started when the lady returned from where she sells food stuffs with N60,000 more than the normal amount that she makes for the day. Bring honest to her husband, she allowed him to see it

“So Matthew challenged her on how she made such cash almost ten times more than her capital and what she usually makes in a day. She replied that the cash was from her “adashe” meaning daily, weekly contribution to a general pool of saved money for the benefit traders which is paid to a member of the group on weekly or monthly bases.

“So it was her turn to pick the cash that day and she landed with the money happily at home but knowing that her husband was a drunkard and a drug addicted person made a mistake by allowing him to see the cash thinking it was ok by that.

“Immediately he sighted the cash, he demanded for it but she refused to surrender the money. He did everything to make her succumb she said no. So he waited for her to sleep that fateful day and returned from his drinking and smoking spree. Picked up a sharp knife and pierced her tummy in a probing way to bring out her intestines

“The stabbing was so gory that he knew she will not survive after that. This is because he opened up her intestines, brought them out and started butchering them one by one to make sure she loses so much blood and dies in the process.

“It was after the merciless butchering of her stomach that madam Mercy started shouting and crying that the neighborhood should come and help her that she doesn’t want to die that way. That was past midnight towards 1am.

“In the process, we neighbors rushed in and found her in a pool of her own blood and asked her to hold on to her intestines so they don’t fall to the ground while we rushed her the hospital” said our source who prefers anonymity.

NEWSng learnt that on seeing the state of her intestines, outside her tommy, two hospitals wrongly rejected taking the vulnerable woman inside the theatre including the Plateau State owned hospital that early morning without no special reason.

Luckily for her the Bingham Hospital off Polo area of the town took her in and by the time they could conclude the operation of sowing back her intestines, she passed painfully

“The rejection of patient Mercy Samuel was one of the unfortunate reasons why she lost so much blood leading to her death. Sadly we do not know why the relations of the lady did not report the matter to the police in time. Why did they wait until after about 48 hours before reporting such a brutal matter” said a resident security personnel.

When contacted, Police Public Relations officer Gabriel Uba confirmed the incident adding that the Police command was on top of the matter and would surely get the husband.

He regretted that it was sad that a matter which occurred last week Monday was not reported until about two days after.

Brazil-Based Businessman Held as NDLEA Uncovers Cocaine-Soaked Shirts at Lagos Airport

By: Michael Mike

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a Brazil-based Nigerian businessman at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after discovering shirts and towels allegedly impregnated with liquid cocaine in a major anti-narcotics operation that also led to the seizure of over two tonnes of illicit drugs across the country.

The suspect, 41-year-old Abugu Ikechukwu, was arrested upon arrival from São Paulo, Brazil, via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight. NDLEA said a detailed examination of his luggage uncovered 14 shirts and towels soaked in liquid cocaine, dried and carefully ironed to evade detection.

The spokesman of the anti-narcotics agency, Femi Babafemi in a statement on Sunday, said forensic analysis revealed the concealed narcotics weighed 6.1 kilogrammes.

Abugu reportedly told investigators that he had lived in Brazil for more than 14 years where he operates an African restaurant and had travelled to Nigeria to visit his family and purchase food supplies for his business.

The arrest was part of a nationwide crackdown that saw NDLEA operatives recover massive consignments of cannabis, tramadol and other controlled substances in multiple states and the Federal Capital Territory.

In a development highlighting the growing reach of drug trafficking networks, the agency also arrested two persons living with disabilities for alleged involvement in the illicit drug trade. A 60-year-old woman, Chidimma Sunday, was taken into custody in Abia State after being caught with 1.8 kilogrammes of skunk, while 28-year-old Abubakar Usman was arrested in Rivers State with cannabis, methamphetamine, tramadol, diazepam and other prohibited substances.

In Taraba State, NDLEA operatives raided the warehouse of a suspected drug kingpin, Ali Adamu, at Maihula village in Bali Local Government Area, where 63 jumbo bags of cannabis sativa weighing 1,121.5 kilogrammes were recovered.

Another major haul was recorded in Lagos where operatives seized 1,102 kilogrammes of Ghana Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, around the Alaba International Market in Ojo.

The agency also intercepted a vehicle along Bode Saadu Road in Kwara State carrying 304 kilogrammes of compressed cannabis blocks concealed in a Toyota jeep. Two suspects, Nasiru Hamza and Muhammad Sani, were arrested in connection with the shipment.

In Abuja, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Gwagwalada Expressway arrested Emmanuel Nnadi and recovered thousands of pills of tramadol, pregabalin and ecstasy, as well as hundreds of bottles of codeine-based syrup.

Other operations in Delta, Gombe and Kano states resulted in the arrest of several suspected traffickers and the seizure of additional consignments of cannabis and pharmaceutical opioids.

Beyond enforcement activities, the agency said it sustained its nationwide War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign through sensitisation programmes in schools, communities and traditional institutions across several states.

Meanwhile, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Buba Marwa, commended officers involved in the operations, describing the seizures and arrests as further evidence of the agency’s commitment to reducing drug supply while intensifying public awareness against substance abuse.

He urged commands across the country to sustain the momentum and continue surpassing previous operational records in the fight against illicit drugs.
