A look into NPOM Award 2022

The National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) Award under the Special Guest of Honour His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) has come and gone but the nostalgia will always remain with the 49 awardees that are drawn from both public and private sector who made the list of the 19th Conferment of National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) 2022.
The NPOM is the highest award of productivity performance and excellence in Nigeria open to individuals and organisations that have contributed and added value to the nation in various sectors. The good thing about this award is that it has no political affiliation. Members of the award committee are persons of integrity driven from different fields of endeavour.

I was privileged to follow- up this year award exercise from nominations to screening. It was credible based on individual and corporate performance of productivity. Among the 49 awardees, I randomly picked on five recipients to comment on for their contributions to nation- building.
Professor Ahmed Ahidjo, Maryam Sani Dangaji, Professor Isaac Nathaniel Itodo, Erisco Foods Limited and Brittania – U Limited.
Prof. Ahidjo is the first Interventional Radiologist in Nigeria and West Africa. He is the first to bring cutting edge innovation of Interventional Radiology to the corridor of Nigeria and West Africa. He hails from Borno State.
Maryam Sani Dangaji was selected for her commitment, hard work, excellent and performance. She successfully coordinated the World Bank funded Public Sector Governance Reforms and Development Projects (PSGRDP) in 2018 with resounding accomplishments.” She hails from Kaduna State.
Prof. Isaac Nathaniel Itodo was selected for his intellectual contributions to advancement of Science, Research and Technology. He has one hundred and nineteen (119) publications to his name. He emerged a 3rd best engineering academic publication in Nigeria in 2019.” He hails from Ogun State.
Others are Erisco Foods Limited, Brittania- U Limited for their contributions in agro- industrial linkage and industrialization in Nigeria. They are all indigenous companies.
Going by this year theme” Achieving Higher Productivity through Improved Educational System.” You may wish to agree with me that National Productivity Centre (NPC) remains the eye of the nation productivity scale and is doing a good job.
