Yobe State Agro-Climatic in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) has inaugurated the 153 local government projects management committee for the 17 local government areas of the state.
The composition of the committee has been drawn from relevant local government ministries, which include heads of department, traditional and religious representatives, women and youth group leaders, as well as representatives of people living with disabilities, among others.
The State Commissioner of the Ministry of Environment, Alhaji Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa, who is also the chairman of the steering committee, has inaugurated the local government project management committee.
The Commissioner charges the committee members to take ownership and ensure the sustainability of all projects to be executed.
Speaking earlier, the ACReSAL state project coordinator, Shehu Alhaji Mohammed, said the formation of the local committee is in line with the ACReSAL mandate to carry communities along in maintaining projects.
He revealed that the federal government has expressed a commitment to reclaim 4 million hectares of degraded land, and out of this number, Yobe ACReSAL is to reclaim 100,000 hectares.
According to him, at least nine people were selected in each of the 17 local government areas of the state.
He urged the leaders in the local government areas to support the committee in discharging their responsibility.
