Armed forces mark 23rd democracy day anniversary with special parade

As part of activities to Armed forces mark the 23rd democracy day anniversary with special parade mark the 2022 Democracy Day celebration, Guards Brigade Nigerian Army on Monday led the Nigerian Armed Forces and Nigeria Police in a special parade.

This is contained in a statement by Capt. Godfrey Abakpa, Assistant Director Army Public Relations for Guards Brigade in Abuja.

Abakpa said the special parade featured a march past by members of the armed forces and the Police in a slow and quick time.

He said the parade also featured a special drill displayed by the armed forces and police drill platoon as well as a combined mass band displayed by the armed forces and police band.

According to him, the Adilla Cultural troupe, which presented the cultural heritage of the various geopolitical zones and the Nigerian army women corps, were also on the ground to entertain guests with special combat and cultural display.

He said the high point of the national celebration was the signing of the democracy anniversary register and the three hearty cheers offered by the armed forces and the police on parade.

The hearty cheers, according to him, were to the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari who was the reviewing officer and the Special Guest of Honour and group photograph.

Abakpa said the parade was attended by President Buhari, former President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President and Speaker House of Representatives.

“Others are members of the Federal Executive Council, the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, the Diplomatic Community and the civil society.

“The Commander, Guards of Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Muhammed Usman and Amb. Babagana Kingibe among others were in attendance,” he said.

The Nigerian Army troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA in collaboration with the police repelled a bandit attack on Soro Daya village in Kankia Local Government Area.

Zagazola learn that the incident occurred at about 1:15 a.m. on Sept. 19 when suspected bandits invaded the village.

The troops were promptly mobilized to the scene. On reaching Soro Daya junction, the team was confronted by the hoodlums, leading to a heavy gun duel.

“The bandits damaged the front tyre and side glasses of a police Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol vehicle before retreating into the forest.

“One female victim, Nabiha Mani, aged 15, was rescued with a gunshot wound on her thigh. She was rushed to the Comprehensive Health Centre in Matazu for treatment and later referred to the Orthopaedic Hospital, Katsina, for further medical attention,” said the sources.

Troops neutralise armed militia in Plateau after failed escape attempt

Troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have neutralised an armed militia in Plateau State after he attempted to disarm a soldier during an operation.

Zagazola gathered that the incident occurred on Sept. 5 during a follow-up operation to a hideout in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

A day earlier, on Sept. 4, troops had arrested the militia at Kaskra with an AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to involvement in several criminal activities within Barkin Ladi and volunteered to lead troops to the hideout of his cohorts to recover weapons.

Sources said that while the search was ongoing at the hideout, the militia made a desperate attempt to snatch a soldier’s rifle in order to escape.

“He was swiftly overpowered and neutralised by the troops in the process,” one of the sources said.

The remains of the deceased suspect were deposited at a hospital morgue, while follow-up operations are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices and recover more weapons.

The sources reaffirmed military’s commitment to sustain the momentum against armed militias and other criminal elements in Plateau, stressing that no effort would be spared in restoring peace and stability across the Joint Operations Area.

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have arrested two suspected terrorist informants and logistics suppliers in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspects were apprehended on Sept. 4 during a fighting patrol to Yaka village by a quick response team.

The suspects, according to the source, are in troop custody for further investigation and action.
