A joint security team has destroyed a camp operated by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Aguluezechukwu community, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra.
It was gathered that the operation, which took place on Tuesday morning, followed actionable intelligence on the activities of the militia group in the area.
The joint task force comprised personnel of the police, Nigerian Army (302 Artillery Regiment Onitsha and 14 Field Engineers Regiment Onitsha), DSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rapid Response Squad (RRS), B’ Ops Awka, and Agunechenba Vigilante.
During the raid, the camp was destroyed and the militants dislodged. Items recovered included a white Lexus 470 SUV with an unverified registration number, suspected to be stolen, and several improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Security sources said clearance operations against armed groups were ongoing across identified camps in the state and would be sustained until the militants were neutralised.
