Bandits in Katsina State, northwest Nigeria on Tuesday killed Area Commander of Dutsinma in Safana local government area of the state.
The Area Commander, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Aminu Umar was killed ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Daura his hometown in Katsina State.
Police spokesman, Superintendent Gambo Isah confirmed the incident stating that“at about 1130hrs Tuesday, a distress call was received, that terrorists numbering over three hundred, on motorcycles, shooting sporadically with AK 47 rifles and General Purpose Machine Guns, GPMGs, ambushed ACP Aminu Umar, Area Commander, Dutsinma and his team, while on clearance operation, in Zakka Forest, Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Isah said as a result, the Area Commander and one other officer lost their lives, adding that, the Commissioner of Police, Idris Dabban, on behalf of the officers and men of the Command, has expressed his deepest sympathy to the families of the deceased, and prayed to Almighty Allah, to repose their souls in Jannatul Firdausi.
In another development, a statement from the Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah.
The statement by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity said the attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.
“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.” Garba Shehu said
