In an attempt to resist the attack, family members of the victim confronted the bandits, prompting the assailants to open fire. Five people sustained gunshot injuries, two of whom later died, while three others are currently receiving treatment at a medical facility.
Local security operatives from the Sokoto Community Guards, a state-backed vigilante outfit, swiftly mobilized and intercepted the attackers.
A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, during which one of the community guards, Bashir Shehu, sustained a bullet wound to the leg and later died while being transported to a hospital.
Troops reinforcement were deployed to the scene but the terrorists had fled.
