Best-performing LGA to receive monetary award in Yobe

Yobe State Executive Council, under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, met on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Council Chamber, Government House, Damaturu. It was chaired by His Excellency the Deputy Governor, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, on behalf of Governor Buni, who is currently on a trip outside the state.

Briefing the newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council, the State Commissioner for Home Affairs Information and Culture, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, said the council approved the memo presented by the Hon. Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana, on the “Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge” for local government councils in the state.

Bego revealed that the local government area PHC leadership challenge was launched and is being operated by UNICEF with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and oversight by the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency.

“The local government area PHC leadership challenge is just one of 12 indicators for an award that could come to the state among all the 36 states of the federation if local government areas adhere to specific activity indicators aimed at improving primary health care at the grassroots level.

The council also approved the establishment of three weather stations in Damaturu, Machina, and Gulani local government areas to help with climate and agricultural issues at a cost of $189.9 million.

“The council also approved the sum of $225,911,843.39 for the rehabilitation and extension of Banquet Multipurpose Hall, Government House, Damaturu. In addition, the council approved the sum of $345,217,652.50 for the provision of furniture and equipment for newly constructed apartment houses at the Presidential Lodge, Damaturu.

Bego further maintained that the State Executive Council also approved the recommendation that monetary awards be given to the best-performing local governments at the zonal level as well as at the overall state level.

He pointed out that the council approved #1,183,077,543.75 as a variation on the cost earlier approved on Chumbusko-Tagali Road. As for the dual carriageway on the on the left side, which is now to be carried out through direct labor, the council approved the sum of $1,521,262,537.27 for the work.
