Betara Aliyu: A pragmatic leader and silent achiever

Leadership is not about attaining some theoretical fit. It was never about talking much and it is certainly not without substance especially in political situations. This is why I see the member representing Biu, Shani, Kwaya-kusar and Bayo federal constituency in the green chamber at the National Assembly as pragmatic and a silent achiever.

I rarely praised public servants as I would describe them because it was by the public votes that they attained their positions. However, like many Nigerians and especially the people of Borno state and those represented by this great public servant. I therefore singled him (Hon. Muktari Betara Aliyu) out because he has demonstrated an unequal representation in the green chamber.

I need not speak about why the people of his constituency pitched their tents with him. That goes to show that a performing servant eats at the table of his master. And something leading to the master washing his feet. That is the story of Hon. Muktari Betara Aliyu in Biu, Kwaya-kusar, Shani and Bayo local governments’ areas of Borno state where he is standing as the people’s representatives.

Today, he stands as a leader of other representatives in Borno state informing their decisions to call him their ‘Head Boy.” Hon. Betara Aliyu as it stands is not leading his constituency from the back bench. He stands in front like a general who leads a battle. He fights from all fronts to help the people of his constituency enjoy the dividends of democracy that the APC administration has to offer the people of Nigeria, Borno state and the areas where he represents.

Since the first time he was elected as the representative of the people, Hon. Betara Aliyu keeps a sealed lips over his achievements. However, because his achievements are more practical than theory, they speak of life and therefore cannot remain in darkness. Each time he makes such a pragmatic decision and brings forward tangible things like the golden fish he floats on the lips of thousands whose lives are being touched by his angelic moves.

One of the secrets of Muktari Betara Aliyu is that, as much as he remained silent over his numerous achievements, he maintained a constant relationship with his people. He followed up on every assignment to ensure that they got to the grassroots. He often visits his constituency to feel the pulse of the people and he keeps a listening ear and seeks advice.

I have also observed that, while he often visits his constituency, he always preaches peaceful coexistence among them. Several times he goes out of the normal with such office in stretching out helping hand for the less privileged people in times of sickness and other needs. He goes extra-miles to ensure that graduates from his constituency are supported with grants for business and those seeking employment are also assisted.

Those who are not in school and are doing business are constantly being supported, especially traders and farmers. He did not leave out other groups of people as he constantly worked with the voices of the needs in his constituency to ensure a deliberate move was made to save situations even outside his representations and expectations of the people. The greatness of a leader is to listen to his people and to seek their contributions towards achieving greatness. For the people of Biu, Kwaya-kusar, Shani and Bayo federal constituency, this is not just where Betara stands but where he started.
