BfNigeria Takes Steel Development Drive to China

Nigeria has taken the drive to develop its steel industry to China as the Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), Mr. Joseph Tegbe, and the Minister for Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Audu are currently on a high-level working visit to the Asian country to attract strategic development projects and deepening industrial cooperation with key Chinese partners.
The delegation held a strategic meeting with executives of Sino Steel, one of China’s largest and most influential steel conglomerates over the revitalization of the Ajaokuta Steel Company, a key industrial asset considered critical to Nigeria’s manufacturing ambitions and job creation strategy. The talks centred around technical evaluations, operational modelling, and financing frameworks required to restore the facility to full productivity.
A statement on Wednesday from NCSP, said earlier Mr Tegbe had met with the leadership of Jingye Steel, one of China’s foremost private steel manufacturers with a global footprint, where they explored the possibility of establishing integrated steel mills in Nigeria, a critical step toward strengthening local capacity for steel production and supporting key sectors such as infrastructure, automotive manufacturing, and construction.
The Minister for Steel subsequently led Nigerian officials on a site visit to the production facilities of Jingye Steel, located in the Hebei province in China.
In Beijing, Tegbe held a productive meeting with SYS Company, a leading water engineering and environmental solutions firm specializing in wastewater recycling and renewable energy generation. Discussions focused on the potential deployment of SYS’s innovative technologies in Nigeria, particularly in converting wastewater into reusable resources and power. The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the development of a circular economy that supports energy diversification.
Earlier in the visit, the Director-General of NCSP held a follow-up meeting with executives of CSSC Haishen, advancing a prior understanding between the Chinese firm and CPL Ltd, a leading Nigerian medical and pharmaceutical equipment company. The meeting centered on securing competitive pricing for medical equipment, enhancing knowledge transfer and operational support, and identifying financing solutions to ensure the long-term sustainability of the healthcare modernization initiative.
According to the statement, these strategic engagements underscore NCSP’s broader mission to build transformative partnerships that harness China’s technological expertise and Nigeria’s development priorities—delivering practical outcomes across health, industry, infrastructure, and environmental innovation.

Troops arrest suspected foreign national along Azir–Damboa road in Borno

Troops of 25 Brigade, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have arrested a suspected foreign national along the Azir–Damboa road in Borno State.
Military sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect was apprehended at about 5:55 p.m. on Sept. 5 following a tip-off from local residents about the movement of a suspected foreigner along the route.
During preliminary questioning, the suspect reportedly identified himself as a national of the Republic of Cameroon.
He told the troops that he entered Nigeria through Taraba State and was travelling towards Niger State in search of artisanal work but lost his way.
The suspect remains in military custody for further investigation and necessary action, while authorities work to establish his identity, travel history and circumstances surrounding his presence in the area.

Troops of 82 Division Task Force Battalion have arrested a suspected ISWAP member who was found loitering around Papa 7 location in Borno State.
Military sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect was apprehended at about 9:35 a.m. on Sept. 6 while troops were conducting picketing duties in the area.
The suspect was found with a gunshot wound and was taken into custody for questioning.
Preliminary interrogation reportedly indicated that the suspect had descended from Gava in the Mandara Mountains in search of medical attention.
Sources attributed his movement to the effects of sustained military pressure and psychological operations targeting terrorist enclaves in the area.
The suspect remains in military custody for further investigation, while security forces continue operations aimed at degrading terrorist groups and disrupting their activities in the Mandara Mountains.

Investigation begins as SNCO dies after shooting incident at Kuje custodial centre

Authorities have commenced an investigation into a shooting incident involving a senior non-commissioned officer at the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in the Federal Capital Territory.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 9:37 a.m. on Sept. 7 while the personnel was on duty at the facility.
According to the sources, the SNCO fired at his commanding officer, but the shot missed after the officer moved away.
The SNCO subsequently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and an investigation has been launched to establish what led to the shooting.
The remains of the deceased personnel were evacuated to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) for further action.
Authorities are expected to provide additional details as the investigation progresses.
