Boko Haram: ISWAP killed 4 Soldiers, Shots an Officer in Borno

An encounter between Nigerian military and Islamic State for West Africa Province, ISWAP at Ngamdu, a border town between Yobe and Borno States left four soldiers dead while an officer was reportedly injured.

The clash on Tuesday according to a source speaking with NEWSng on Thursday said it was a fierce battle that lasted for almost two hours because the ISWAP elements were trying to force the military to abandon their base in the location.

NEWSng also gathered that the officer was shot while attempting to provide cover for soldiers under heavy gun fire.

” He sustained serious injury from the gun shot. But he was able to distract those ISWAP firing with AA at own troops. He is currently at a military medical facility and is fast recuperating.” An officer with information told NEWSng

Another source said “While the troops were engaging the ISWAP terrorists in their MRAPs and gun trucks, some of the ISWAP insurgents sneaked and attempted to penetrate the Ngamdu Super Camp from behind.

“It was at this point that the Officer and soldiers turned fire on them in a swift confrontation. Unfortunately, four soldiers were shot by the terrorists and later died.

“The officer who attempted to protect the troops also sustained injuries in the attack, but is now receiving treatment.

“The troops, however, succeeded in repealing the ISWAP attack.”

Fighter helicopters, which came handy also helped in pushing back the ISWAP fighters. 

The NAF aircraft also successfully provided air cover to another detachment of troops moving from Ngamdu to Benishek with heavy arms and ammunition.

The terrorists had attempted to attack a military base in the area before they were stopped by troops who had been put on high alert.
