Borno looses 11 personnel to Boko Haram

Borno State Police Command has lost a total number of 76 personnel during service in 2022.

Briefing newsmen in maiduguri about the year 2022, Commissioner of Police (CP) Abdu Umar said that 11 out of this number lost their lives while engaging terrorists in the war theatre.

The CP revealed that another 7 police personnel died through car crashes while the remaining were lost due to various illnesses which took their lives while on duty. 

The CP noted that none of his personnel were abducted by ISWAP insurgents since none has been declared unaccounted for by management or declared missing in any way during the period under review. 

CP Umar posited that more than these statistics became widows during the period under review adding that the state government has supported the command in empowering about 30 widows for a start pending the revolving of the funds for their benefits. 

The CP maintained  that Governor Zulum has agreed to support the widows with  N25 m for the widows and widower of the service from last year onwards. 

On sexual violations, Abdu Umar stated that a whopping number of 100 rape cases were reported during the period under review while some are being processed for prosecution by the director of public prosecution. 

Reviewing his activities for the year 2022, the CP said that they had over 100 cases of rape during the period under review.

On equipments, the CP further revealed that the Governor supplied about 9 armoured personnel careers to augment the fire power of the police which is expected to occupy liberated council areas in the state to prevent insurgents from reoccupying such areas.

In continuation of the development of states battered by insurgency, in the north east war theatre, the CP announced that the north east development agency has also identified skills for entrepreneurship development for the benefit of young people in the barracks. 

Ig welfare scheme for personnel 

Abdu Umar announced that the inspector General (IG) welfare scheme for personnel has also provided 26m for  the commands welfare scheme adding that a whopping N13 billion has been set aside for police pension scheme in the entire country. 

Mobile police training school Gwoza 

The CP said that the Gwoza training college is still being rehabilitated adding that training will soon commence in the institute which was abandoned after the attack of 2014 by boko haram in which 13 females and about 22 male personnel in training were allegedly abducted and taken away into the deep of the savanna. 

On housing, CP Abdu commended Governor Babagana Zulum for building 249 houses for the Borno State Command adding that they will soon be handed over for use by personnel by the State Government.
