BORNO: READING VP OSINBAJO’S BODY LANGUAGE WHEN HE CAME CALLING

Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo was overheard telling some members of his entourage that, he is always very eager and curious visiting Borno state for several reasons. He was again overheard saying, he felt fulfilled seeing what he saw, some of which were beyond what he expected.
Above remarks were the summations of the vice President’s visit to Maiduguri last Thursday. I believe one of the several reasons the Vice President was eager going to Borno, must have been the desire to see for himself the transformations, the state has undergone in the face of the security concerns and the general scarcity of resources.
He must have been eager to see what additions, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has made to what he saw his predecessor Senator Kashim Shettima did. That the Vice President was overwhelmed by what he saw still happening in Borno is a truism, and he could not hide his feelings, if one listens to his remarks at the palace of the Shehu of Borno during the visit.
Professor Osinbajo told the traditional leader that, what the combination of what former Governor Kashim Shettima and the incumbent Babagana did in Borno state, often gives him the confidence that there is still hope for Nigeria, even in the face of obvious challenges.
Osinbajo who was apparently elated was full of praises for the duo of Zulum and Shettima at every stop during the visit, left with an obvious nostalgic desire for a repeat visit.

Although it was a one day visit where he commissioned projects executed by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Vice President was moved more by the spirit of the people, who appear not daunted by their challenges, rather determined to move on.
Reading the vice President’s body language, one cannot be left in doubt, that, should the mantle of leadership fall on him, Senator Shettima and Professor Zulum will be amongst the first eleven in the next dispensation, so Nigeria can benefit from their rare show if statesmanship.
To him, from what I can see, it is impossible eulogizing the Governor without looking back at the seamless transition from his predecessor Shettima. Osinbajo was more enthralled with the manifest cordial relationship between Zulum and Shettima, a development that is rare amongst out gone leaders and their successors.
Former Governor and Senator representing Borno Central, Kashim Shettima, who was on the Vice Presidents entourage, must have felt very proud having given the people of Borno, a leader, who has endeared himself to the high and low.
Along with Zulum, the Vice President’s coded remarks have tended to bind them together even more strongly. The days ahead will define the real secret behind the bond
