Borno State Environmental Agency Orchestrates Successful End of Year Sanitation

In a move to promote cleanliness and hygiene within the city, Borno State Environmental Protection Agency (BOSEPA) conducted a highly effective end of year sanitation exercise in Maiduguri and its surrounding areas.

This exercise was primarily aimed at ensuring that proper sanitation measures were being followed and to encourage the public to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in all areas of the city.

The exercise was conducted in various areas, including the post office, Monday Market Area, Bama Road, Gamboru, and other locations. The initiative had the participation of the Ministry of Environment and the general public, with the active support of the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Hajjiya Ladi Aliyu, and the General Manager of BOTMA, Alh Baba Shehu Tijjani.

The removal of illegal structures on the main road was another aspect of the exercise. The General Manager of BOSEPA, Alh. Abubakar Suleiman, emphasized the significance of proper waste management and warned against the dumping of refuse into drainages and waterways. He stated that such actions could cause environmental hazards and disrupt normal water flow, and violators would face legal consequences and be subject to arrest and prosecution.

The Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Hajjiya Ladi Aliyu urged clubs and associations to keep up the exercise and create awareness camping within the community, while the GM BOTMA thanked everyone who participated and urged the general public to prioritize cleanliness in their immediate environment and maintain the restrictions of movement during the sanitation period.

The end of year sanitation exercise and operation remove illegal structures on the main road were successful, the collective effort of BOSEPA, the Ministry of Environment, BOTMA, and the public.
